Peace River

This camp ground is on the Peace River. We would have called this a creek when I was a kid. The water is brown and fast flowing looks like it is flowing at about 3-4 mph.  The brownish color of the water comes from Tannic acid, decaying trees and leaves in the swamps. The swamp is the head waters of the Peace, Hillsborough, and Withlacoochee rivers. The water is good just stained like tea.

You can see the tea colored water contrasted by the white sand at the bottom of the river. I love those tall Palms, It is hard to imagine they stand up to hurricane winds.

Of course there are alligators along the river, we did not see any yet, but we know they are there. In Florida, any pond, river, creek or lake is subject to have alligators and snakes around.

Our camp site for a couple weeks. We really like it here. a great place to walk.

This is abut 100 yds from our site and is a Canoe launch. Also the start of the nature trail that goes by the two trees on the left. Shown below.
