Okay, Finally Love is FINALLY out.

Last night after much frustration and talking to computers, it is done. There was still a small glitch or two, but it is in. Most of this frustration is probably my age and comprehension. BUT I FINALLY GOT THIS MESSAGE!

Note of set up

https://www.createspace.com/4141907

This ended up being the final cover, Sherry thought the hands were not old enough and likes the sunset best. Also I put a lot of stock into what Bonnie has had to say as she proofed the book, she preferred a sunset.

final coverfinally love

The price of the book is $8.50. I tried to price it less but the system insisted they wanted some profit also.  Profit on this book in Europe is 1¢. I am expecting a wind fall. LOL

Of course it has never been about profit, it is about fun.

Life has a way of moving right along. I can remember when I read only material related to work. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would write 90 to a 100 thousand words (that made sense!)

I will probably sell a limited number (25) of books on this blog. I might even do a give-away like our friend Sandie over at :

http://chattycrone.blogspot.com/

I have learned a lot in the past few years. If I market my own books the number is never counted on ‘Author total book sales’ so I am rated much lower on the # of books in print. That actually matters little, but it was something I did not know.

Oh yes for Kindle owners, I will let you know when it is avail as an e-book.

So I proofed this dude on the digital side, I hope I was right. LOL

Thanks for dropping by the log.

I make notes

(Pictures are from our get together with the grandkids and their dads)

Woodshed and family 025

(Sherece & Stella)

I am the world’s worst about making notes. I have at least 20 notes to myself, but I don’t always read them. I was just going through them, and I have three duplicates.

Woodshed and family 016

(Luke & Lauren)

I’ve have notes on fixing the Z-28. Notes on hints for repairing Mark’s truck (they are not good). A small stack on dentists in Ciudad Acuna, Mexico.  Note on tools I need.  Notes on what I need to do before we head for Del Rio.

(Did anyone out there ever listen to XERF Ciudad Acuna, Quailla (?) Mexico? The most powerful station in the southeast).

Woodshed and family 018

(Jack Jr. & his Mama)

(Just thinking, the other powerful station was in Cincinnati, one, Ohio what was the call sign?)

Woodshed and family 020

(Josh & Megan)

Now a new small stack of notes, hints on formatting the book to upload. Bonnie has finished proofing, l now I am having a problem getting it in the right format to upload.

Woodshed and family 028

(Grandpa Mark and Stella)

The back of the book had the wrong synopsis, Bonnie got me for that.  But I just found out that was not my fault. I put the new one in, but it did not go. It made me second guess my self. But Today I changed the picture on the cover and made sure the newest synopsis was in, BUT when I looked at what the printer received, there was the hands on the front and the old synopsis. I know I changed them.

Woodshed and family 034

(Steve & Jennifer)

Now it is another three day delay. ha! (not funny jack).

Woodshed and family 022

(My date & I)

Anyway I am progressing slow, BUT I have the kitchen table covered with notes.

Pictures from last night at the Woodshed.

Thanks for dropping by,

Ever leave anything behind in a Motel or Hotel?

Once when we were hiking and went into town, upon leaving we left our walking sticks, a couple aspen poles from Alaska. We called back and they held them for us.

We seldom are in a hotel or motel anymore but we have come close to leaving some other things. A list of things left is amazing.

It is due to our  rush and distracted society. The most common things left are cell phone and laptop chargers that is logical. Then there are the ‘hanging clothes’, GPS’s, mobile phones and oddly enough, suitcases.

BUT some of the stuff is hard to understand. In the UK it was reported some of the oddest. A live Python, and a bucket of live crabs.

Would you believe a man left a $100,000 Rolex watch?  Another left a stamp album worth $500,000.  Even a diamond encrusted iphone.

It is possible to get thoroughly distracted and leave some important things. Once in a hurried period we took our grand kids to the beach. Sherry’s sister and her husband had a place about 20 mins off the beach, they let us use it.

I had sold a house and  had about 3 months salary in cash. For what ever reason we did not go to the bank and carried the money. We had a great time at the beach, loaded in the van and headed back to the trailer. At the trailer we could not find the keys, in fact we could not find the ‘beach bag that contained Sherry’s purse, my pay envelope and wallet. It was GONE. Sherry realized “ Surprised smileLord help us,it is on the sidewalk where the van was parked.”

So we sped back to the beach, naturally the draw bridge was open, causing a (5-10min)nerve wracking wait. But we finally made it back to the beach. Sitting right there on the side walk, where it had sat all by it’s lonesome for an hour, was the BEAUTIFUL bag, in tact, with over $12,000 in cash in it. It also contained  family Christmas savings that she always put back for the family during the year.

Now I have no idea if prayer saved it or not, but my girl done some praying (okay, I said one or two myself). LOL

I think the oddest thing someone left in a hotel was a full size stage horse, really. We all need to settle down a little, take time to smell the roses, as they say.

Teenagers and Fads

Sunday mornings Sherry and I shared our normal half biscuit with jelly at McDonalds.

She orders, I get napkins and find a seat. Today for some reason, as I sat waiting, I was noticing  teens. I was remembering our teens. I met Sherry when I was 15, started dating her when I was 16 and we married  when I was 17.

Aspirations

(As a kid you want to be 18)

It seems to take teens longer to grow up now than in the ‘50’s. BUT they are still teens. They have such fun, joking, telling wild stories doing the latest fads, etc. Girls in the shortest shorts, long dresses and every thing in between. Piercings and boys with ear rings, wild hair doo’s. But most of all just having fun.

Yeah…. I sat there smiling as I remembered my hair (fondly), Wild Root Cream Oil was my choice for my duck’s tail. I pegged my pants  and turned my collar up. We went thru a time of the skinny belts, they were 1/2” wide and several colors (red, light blue, pink and dark blue). Of course you didn’t have them all, I had blue.

Scanoldpic8 029 - Copy

(Me with mama that was a blue suede jacket)

We had penny loafers, two tone  and suede shoes.  If you couldn’t afford a leather jacket (I was 58 yrs old before I got one) the jean or suede jacket would do. We put heel taps on our shoes and on occasion would put the metal chair glider buttons on our shoes. Then run and slide on a sidewalk at night and leave a line of sparks, you could slide 20 feet in the school hall (until you got caught) that was way out cool

Scanoldpic8 040

(Once I had sort of a flat top with DA)

The boys, that were cool, would roll a pack of cigarettes up in the short sleeve of a T-shirt, after lighting up with a stick match (struck on the belt or jeans). (Then eat wild onions before going home)

Of course no boy would have dared wear an ear ring. Anyway, I recalled a lot of stuff before my girl came over with our breakfast. Sunday she only paid for the biscuit, the coffee was free, I am a cheap date. LOL

Thanks for stopping by.

Take the blame

“Take the blame when you deserve it.” That is the response of Gretchin Rubin when she was asked the best advice she had ever received.

wow3

(Looks like a flower river, huh)

Too many folks are ready to give advice at the drop of a hat. I have mentioned it on this blog several times, I try not to give too much advice, but sometimes I cannot help myself, I am just so danged smart. I can usually FIX anyone else’s problems in a few insightfully wise words. (NOW MY PROBLEMS ARE A HORSE OF A DIFFERENT COLOR, LOL).

Vivian Shiller wrote, “The best advice I ever received was: Know yourself, you are NEVER as good as your best reviews and NEVER as bad as the worst ones.

wow6

(A flower train for spring)

Advice is best given when asked, and then sometimes the asking is out of a feeling of obligation.

Some of us learn slower than others, as I grow older I find my shoe fits my mouth better and better. (Does anyone know where that saying came from?)

Some folk know how to give advice without ‘giving a lecture.’ My mama could do it with a look.

In a survey of the best advice, it was found that most of the great advice and guidance has come from one’s mother. I can believe that.

When you are actually smart or trained in a particular field, IT IS HARD NOT TO GIVE ADVICE AND TRY TO MAKE CORRECTIONS!

When I was reading the survey on advice, the one that stuck out was from Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist. He prefaced his statement with a story of how when working  with IBM he alienated half the office with his constant corrections. He said later, the best advice he ever received was, “Do not correct people when it matters little.”

Some of the things we put a priority on, actually matters little in the long run.

I worked closely with my son Mark in the construction business. Mark never failed to listen to me, he nodded when I told him how I wanted something done.THEN HE WOULD DO THE JOB THE WAY HE WANTED TO.  In that case I seldom said anything because he always did do a good job. When I read what Craig said, it hit home, that was one time I actually DID NOT CORRECT because it didn't matter.

Thanks for stopping by.

PS:

Most of us find it is much easier to give advice, than to take it. (many times we don’t  heed our own advice)

Too much of a Good thing

It is hard to realize that there actually is such a point. Sherry talks about eating so many doughnuts that it was awhile before she wanted another.

Some children get into chocolate and eat too much and get sick.

One that sticks out in my mind is ‘bumper cars’. That was one of my favorite things at a fair, it seemed that a quarter’s worth just didn’t last long. Once the grand kids came along we would take them camping and visit some tourist place also.

One of those trips was to ‘Tweetsie’, a famous place within the confines of North Carolina; it has a train with a steam engine (Tweetsie) that circles the park, it gets robbed by outlaws and the outlaws are always captured by the good guy.

They also had rides. So everyone wanted the bumper cars. The mans thought he was doing us a favor and let it run and run and run. I was ready to get out, even the grand kids got tired of it. THAT WAS TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING.

Sherry and I love the Pecan Waffle from the Waffle House.

I always thought, just a few more pecans would make it even better. Well this morning the waffle was filled with pecans, actually too many. We didn’t say anything inside but in the car we both said, too many pecans.

I guess that is like too much seasoning in something.

Did it ever happen to you?  Too much of a good thing?

Are there things you can never get enough of?

Thanks for stoppping by. (too much 'p’s’ there)

PS:

Methinks that there are some things that you cannot get enough of: GOOD MEMORIES, OLD CARS, LOVE, HOPE, SMILES, LAUGHTER and a nice walk in the woods.

Texting and Sexting…

I only put the sexing there cause it sounded like it fit.
Son Jack suggested we should get some smart phones. “With a smart phone Dad can text,” says he. “He can simply use the voice to text feature.”
So now Sherry carries two smart phones around. On very rare occasions I will hold on to one. And I do text at times. But with text, the sender actually does not know where the text went, or at least that is how I see it. Example:
To day a text came in and automatically Sherry hands it to me. text:  “Hey next Tuesday will be my last day on the job. A company in Afghanistan has accepted me as a manager of one of their projects. So I will be headed that way. Just wanted you to know.”
I have no idea who the text came from, I have the number of course, and it doesn’t look familiar and is not in our directory.
So I ask myself, “Should I text that number and tell him who ever he was texting, probably was not me?” Or is it a wise guy or spam?”
I ignored it.
Never text  and drive it is against the law!” On the way to the Doctor I observed several folks texting. One at 60mph, just a few feet from the guy in front of her. But honestly, how do you enforce such a law as ‘no texting while driving’. It is a ‘feel good’ law’, that is  easy to pass, but impossible to enforce.
I’m confused, as a deaf person, why would a person who hears, want to text instead of talk to someone.  That is an honest question, I would like to know.
BUT I would probably have done it as a teen ager because it was cool, and I definitely thought I was cool. LOL  After all, teenagers are immortal, UNTIL …???!!!
We would like to pass on all our wisdom to teens, but they won’t listen. AH!  Surprised smile the lament of all seniors no matter what century or generation. THE YOUTH WILL NOT LISTEN!  They were right, we would not listen, would we?
Don’t Text and drive, you probably shouldn’t sext and drive either (what ever that is!)

PS:
The guy thought he could text,
Eyes off the road for awhile,
Now sadly he won’t drive another mile.

Taxing is a big

I just read where NJ will tax the weather.

Some background:

The Chesapeake Bay faces a serious pollution problem. The Environmental Protection Agency decreed in 2010 that Maryland had to stop so much stormwater runoff from draining into the Bay, a project that would cost $14.8 billion. To pay for that, authorities decided to tax "impervious surfaces" -- in the words of The Gazette, "anything that prevents rainwater from seeping into the earth (roofs, driveways, patios, sidewalks, etc.) thereby causing stormwater runoff."

We have been paying a ‘Water Run off tax’ in NC for a long time. I argued like many folk that I would put a berm around my property to hold all “MY” water in.  That didn’t work.

I had a list once of the taxes that have been added in the last 100 years. the list was ‘pages long’.

Now here is another for Maryland.

Hope you all filed your taxes, if not send us the address and we will bring you a cake (with a hack saw blade inside)

Take care..

George Harrison’s Tax Man:

If you drive a car, I'll tax the street,
If you try to sit, I'll tax your seat.
If you get too cold I'll tax the heat,
If you take a walk, I'll tax your feet.
