Some things do not change

Age & change
Many people on blogger that read, blog and/or comment are of retirement age. I am well into retirement age, I will be 80 this January.

In my life time the baseball and softballs have remained the same size. Mostly they even look the same, but now there maybe pictures or team names on them, but they are basically the same.

Now stores are another subject. Many of you may remember the small grocery stores that allowed you to charge your groceries until payday and they even delivered them to your house in paper bags and boxes.  The delivery boy was seldom tipped and the grocer did not charge interest on the total you had charged.

Cars have definitely changed, wildly so in design. I would be amiss if I didn’t say the mechanical parts are better and engines do not wear out as soon. I very seldom see a car ‘smoking’ going down the road anymore. I seldom add oil between changes. Some cars go from birth to death and still have the same spark plugs. Oh yes, cars have changed.

I am not sure if we EVER get the ironing board out anymore. Many homes do not have a sewing machine.  Wash day is usually less than 2.5 hours, and most of that time machines are doing the work. Seldom do we hang anything. (We do have about 10-15 clothes pins.)  LOL

What started this post was a little red and white can of oil. It is called ‘3 in 1’.  Mama had a small can at her sewing machine and daddy had one twice that size stored somewhere. We oiled everything with ‘3 in 1’:
Leather razor straps, scissors, hunting rifles, door hinges, bicycles, skates, swing chains, chairs, gliders anything that squeaked. The can has changed some, mine is metal. the new ones are plastic.

George Cole invented the 3 in 1 in 1894 it is now produced by the WD40 company of all people.  (and just like panty hose there are now many varieties of 3 in 1 for this and that!)

I haven’t used that in a LONG time. I am too quick to get the WD-40. But as I held that little can my mind raced thru the years.  I thought how nice that basically something has not changed even from since before I was born. I have no idea how old that can is.  It could be over 30 years old.

I know me ‘n you are like 3 in 1, we NEVER change …..  …       …. (not)

On the road soon

The cat came back, thought he was a goner but the cat came back.....
Well Tom Cat showed back up, but of course Blackie’s kittens didn’t. I told Tom if he is gonna father some more puppies he had better keep an eye on them.  He just ignored me.

I told Blackie to not let him mess around with her and she just ignored me also.
 Then to humans....
I received a message from Rickie, he is back in Saudi at work. He lives close to his work there.  But his wife is in Kenya in Nairobi.  She works in the hotel system there. Being a nosy uncle I asked how often he went home? He said every three or four months. De nephew ain’t like de uncle, that is for danged sure!  LOL,  But he is working out long range plans.  I thought of working out of country a few times myself, but the thoughts didn’t last long.

The pay is good and one can get well doing it. I have a cousin who also worked in the mid-east. Saudi and Egypt I know of, not sure of the other countries.

Of course at this stage of life’s game I want to travel in a few countries, but not in the mid or far East.

My thoughts go to England and Ireland. I was in England while in the USN but I have never been to Ireland. Sherry has been to neither, I would like for her to see them too.

Believe it or not, she has been in Israel and Jordon I haven’t been in either. Presently I have no desire to see them. She landed in the Netherlands but didn’t get off the plane. I count it, she doesn’t, LOL

I’m sorta excited tonight. We finally decided to take a quick 2 week trip to Del Rio, Texas. Son Mark needs a ride out there and we can do that and give him a place to stay. I just checked Laughlin Air Force Base and we can stay there reasonable.

Not sure I would like this mural on my garage doors either, some foolish person (like me) might drive right thru the door.

Sweets vs the salty (or the not-so-sweet?)

Historical Photo:

 Adams street looking East, Phoenix

I like cake and ice cream but when given the choice I would rather have a bag of Muscatine, cherries, grapes or melon.
Snacks vs cookies, I would rather have sweet milk and soda crackers. (I could eat my weight in that)

My family prefers sweets. I am sure the prevailing flavor is chocolate.

I like p-nut butter on soda or cheese cracker to an Oreo.

That is not to say I did not eat my share of all  the homemade Ice Cream we churned as a kid. But I did like the salty ice we churned the ice cream cylinder in.  I must admit I think the only churned Ice cream I remember was Vanilla.

Now in candy bars, I think Snickers was my favorite, followed by the salty p-nut roll and the peanut plank.

Neither Sherry nor I have had diabetes. My Dad and some of his brothers had SD, but dad controlled his, he never had insulin shots.  He listening to mama ,and eating what she cooked for him kept him from having to take a shot.

I have no idea why I wrote this. It might be because many people think I am odd and I wanted to know if I had company??  hahahaha

PS: One question. I have always heard and said the work muscadine, but every time I type it my spell checker says it is supposed to be Muscatine.  IF that is right, I have been very wrong for over 75 years.  So I ask you, what did you call them?

I'm not sure I would want this mural, someone might try to drive the road!
