Another work day in Lepanto,Arkansas.

Arriving at Lepanto this morning Sherry caught a crop duster. These guys must have a ball, it looks like a lot of fun. He whips up and down and nearly touches the ground.
I guess we cannot get enough of 'A Painted house' We did go up to it today. They have a list of volunteers who will come and show you through the house if you will call them. There isn't enough traffic here to warrant anyone there all the time. We plan to call someone on one of our afternoons off. LOL. Notice they have a Terrapin Derby. That is a land turtle isn't it? There is a large building where it is held. I think I will ask about that.

We stop by McDonalds and have a jelly biscuit pretty often for breakfast. Sherry ordered one out here and the girl asked what is that?
Funny thing happened while we were there. The only time we read the paper is when we get one free, usually at McDonalds. Sherry is the Sports enthusiast in the family and she was looking at the sports page when a young worker came over and said, "YOu know they cheated to win!" (The game between Florida and ARkansas). Sherry smiled and said, "You didn't notice the Florida tags on our car did you?" Didn't phase the kid, who was probably a college student at Arkansas State just down the road.
I have always worked straight through the day, no breaks and no lunch. I got a little tired the other day and decided we would take a break just after lunch to let the local workers have the lunch time. We went to 'Judy's'. (I got a fish sandwich with lettuce, tomato and onion for $3. A big piece of fish too!).
Anyway Sherry was reading the newspaper she picked up off an empty booth. She had it lying open to the obituaries because I had noticed a death posted from Hickory, NC. That is about forty miles from our home town. As Sherry was reading one of the local ladies excused herself, slid the paper away from Sherry. She was on a cell phone, "I need to look at an obituary."

She continued to read the obit to someone on the other end of the phone conversation. While she was reading anouther lady came into the little cafe, and was reading along with the lady on the phone. When the lady disconnected, the new lady took Sherry's paper to her table and commenced to read. Well it was a community paper.
Sherry hasn't said anything yet. She probably will when she read this.
Thanks for coming by the log.

PS:
******You know, I spent a fortune on deodorant before I realized that people didn't like me anyway.
*****I was thinking that women should put pictures of missing husbands on beer cans!
*****I was thinking about old age and decided that old age is 'when you still have something on the ball, but you are just too tired to bounce it.'

We like to stop and watch those planes spray the crops. Well that wasn't very nice of that woman to take the paper away from Sherry. She should have said may I have it when you're finished. My Mama always called what I call a dry land turtle a terripin. I think I woud like to go to a terripin derby.

oh my gosh; I guess they really are friendlier in small towns; take visitor's newspapers and don't return them; how funny! except I guess it shouldn't be funny since they were reading the obits.

I bet you will enjoy the tour of the Painted House :)

Sherry was a true lady in not making a a issue of the paper in McDonald's, but as you said she will probably have something to say soon. Why is it that older people almost always turn to the obits?

I'm jealous, every day for you guys is truly an adventure! Never know what city or state you will be in let alone what restaurant and the people you will meet. Cool! Love it.

Hugs, Rose

I'd have probably been like Sherry and not said anything to the person who took the paper from her hands but I sure would have given her some evil looks. It sounds like it must be something they are used to doing by her excusing herself before she grabbed it. Who knows, maybe the dearly departed was someone who's death was unexpected and they had to see the obit with their own eyes to believe it.

I'm glad you knew you were tired enough that you needed a break instead of pushing yourself. I don't eat fish much but if I eat a fish sandwich that's what I like on mine too, with a little salad dressing, I don't care much for tartar sauce. Oh, and I like the name of the Cafe.

Love ya'll
Debbie

I think it was rude of that woman getting the paper right out from under Sherry's nose, proceeded to read it then take it off to another table and not bring it back. Bet her mama raised her better than that. Helen
