And I thought I knew it all!!! (LOL)

Sherry and I ventured out for breakfast a couple mornings ago. Sherry said maybe Don & Evelyn will be there. Yep, sure enough, and I misunderstood Evelyn (news?!) I thought she had brought us some squash.  Well in a way yeah, have you  heard of squash pickles? Well I haven’t.  Evelyn is a canner and cooker. She canned or made (what ever you do to stuff to make them pickled, I know what Jimmy recommends, I used to try that!) squash pickles. Guess what? They are delicious!

Oh, she pickles watermelon rind also, it is good, but I had heard of that.

Ok, I also confess, I was in my 60’s before I had Rhubarb pie (or rhubarb anything, as far as that goes).  I like it.

In our church growing up, my dad used olive oil to anoint the sick and pray for them. I never knew anyone ate that stuff. Well let me tell you, we use a lot of it now. Garlic? NEVER was it around our house. I remember reading in school that many folks used garlic to shield them from evil spirits. NOW? Sherry and I eat about a quart of minced Garlic a year. It goes in about every thing I cook. Hey Garlic and olive oil are supposed to make you live forever!!!! ( A guy named Methuselah ate it and lived to be 969 yrs old, so it can’t hurt!)

Well up until I was 17, I thought I knew it all.  That is when I left home.  Once your mama ain’t calling you for breakfast, your real education starts. LOL

I had a friend who taught me to like  olives.  I guess I thought they were born with that red pimento in it, because when I bit into an olive that was not pitted, I nearly broke a tooth (true).

Brussels sprouts?  I thought they were baby cabbages, well they do look like it.

Asparagus? never even heard of it until I was 18 (other than Judas of course). Now some one swears it will cure cancer and what ever ails you.  I do like it, but then there isn’t much food wise I do not like.

Thanks for coming this way.  I am still learning, I guess that is good.

Glad you and Sherry went out to breakfast! That must mean she is feeling a bit better and you guys are getting back to routines! Squash pickles, I haven't heard of that myself; interesting! It is fun as we grow from childhood into adulthood and get exposed to a variety of foods to see what we like and what we don't like when it comes to food. I haven't had rhubarb pie myself, Jack; I better put that on my "bucket list".

You two have a great day!

Never had squash pickles or watermelon rinds, myself?? Hubby loves rhubarb. I am crazy for asparagus and olives. OLIVE oil is a staple in our house. Don't use alot of garlic though. If you want to see some GREAT vintage cars and even a short video. Check out http://donna-justme.blogspot.com/ you might have to scroll down to find it, if it's not at the top. ENJOY.

Good post. The comment about Methuselah eating garlic and olive oil tickled me. I had to laugh about your comments about olive oil. In my growing-up years, all I knew was that ancient bottle of Pompeian olive oil on the pulpit. I had to get past the notion that olive oil was sacred before I could use it in food, lol.
Come to think of it, I don't think I've ever had rhubarb pie either. Aunt Bea on "Andy Griffith" sure made it sound good. I bet I would like it!
We never had asparagus when I was a kid, but I grow it now. It's okay - not my favorite.
Watermelon rind preserves are the cat's pajamas!

Lot of olive oil and garlic over here.

Please have you all a wonderful Sunday.

Lol - that is so funny - you are right - the real education begins when you leave home in more ways then one.

At my age I have never ate rubarb anything. Just ate something different and I may be ill tonight. It was beets and sweet potato chips. I like fried sweet potatoes but these chips had kind of a cold greasy taste.

It seems I do learn something new every day of my life and I hope I don't ever say I know it all. I had heard of the squash pickles but have never had them. I spent a beautiful day here at my camper and had some good times with some of my family and a few camping friends. Here I am after 11 and trying to catch up with some blogger friends. I'm not going to make the rounds tonight, my eyes are falling shut already.

I con't like much, pickled. Water melon rinds are meant to be given to the pigs. Hate broccoli, Give me a good dill pickle with garlic in it, and bread and butter pickles. Don't like asperagus any way you would like it.

Never heard of squash pickles will
have to ask Evelyn for the recipe.
I know garlic if very good for
health. People always hated to
get around people with garlic
breath hard to cover up. LOL
We do learn lots the older we get.

Had a good laugh about the eating of olive oil. Like you, I had always thought it was just for praying for the sick and afflicted! ☺ I remember going to a church where a lady told me that a former pastor got carried away with himself and ordered her to drink a whole bottle of olive oil instead of anointing her. I asked her if she got healed...to which she replied, "No, but I tasted olive oil for months afterward!"

Fantastic LaSalle! In the early '50s, there was some talk in GM of reviving the marque and Harley Earl's styling crew did one LaSalle show car. That's as far as the project got: one show car.

I had some pickled asparagus a few weeks ago that I bought from an Amish store. Love it. Tried to make my own and it was not quite so good. When I lived in TX I pickled my own watermelon rinds. Very good with pork! I love strawberry-rhubarb pie and cobblers. Now I'm hungry!
