Dem Heart Doctors got me on a YO-YO

Disclaimer #1: This is mostly about heart disease. Skip it if you are not interested. Probably bore you to death. Dr. Jack  DPC

Disclaimer #2  Nothing I say is to my personal knowledge, good or bad professional medical advice.Dr. Jack  DPC

I was over at Sonya’s FB page  earlier to see how she is doing and she had posted a great article by Dr. Dwight Lundell who is the past Chief of Staff and Chief of Surgery at Banner Heart Hospital , Mesa , AZ.  A surgeon for 25 yrs and has performed over 5000 open heart surgeries.

I agree with his stand in the article, but I think we all agree with a Dr. or someone in authority WHEN THEY SAY WHAT WE THINK!

I have high cholesterol, my Dr. has prescribed two different statins, the first one I broke out in a rash, the second one my muscles began to hurt. I have been stopped since July 30th. the pain is just subsiding in my shoulder.

Now with that said, Lundell did make a statement one cannot argue with:

The long-established dietary recommendations have created epidemics of obesity and diabetes, the consequences of which dwarf any historical plague in terms of mortality, human suffering and dire economic consequences.

Despite the fact that 25% of the population takes expensive statin medications and despite the fact we have reduced the fat content of our diets, more Americans will die this year of heart disease than ever before.

I know this is a boring entry but why is it that we get confusing medical advice from the PROFESSIONAL Medical community? If you read his article it makes sense. His advice is to eat well, a variety of colors in veggies. He suggests Olive Oil or butter to cook with and is against corn or soy oils. He discourages refined sugars.

His main thrust says inflammation, not cholesterol, is the threat. That the Omega-6 in veggie oils and also the sugar that is the cause of inflammation in the arterial walls.  The Inflammation causes the collection of the Cholesterol that blocks the arteries.

I hope that is about as clear as mud, but as I read the article it made sense to me.

So that wasn’t so bad, I hope. If you want to read the article:

  http://www.sott.net/article/242516-Heart-surgeon-speaks-out-on-what-really-causes-heart-disease

Now in truth, I usually try to check a source on the net, and there are MD’s that insist he is a Quack. I read one place where the state pulled his Medical license.  I might also consider him a quack if this was the first Dr. I had read that espoused the same.

If you need surgery just call me, Dr. Jack, anytime day or night BR-548,  if you call BR-549 you get Junior Samples on He Haw.

PS:

Why does it seem that medical advice is a crap-shoot?

I too, have been on many Statin drugs that caused adverse reactions. I believe Statins are nasty.

I went off of them for a while but my doctor claimed that my heart was not being protected without them because of high cholesterol. ???

I now suffer with arthritis severely. With todays medical knowledge and research. There has to be something to help us all.

Just saying.

I soooooooooo agree with this, Jack. Diet. Diet. Diet.
And why do we get conflicting stories about meds?
Money. Money. Money.
That's my opinion.
I'm not a doctor, but I do have an opinion.
Hugs and hopes for a healthy heart to you, my dear friend....

I will just keep eating oatmeal
and watch my diet. Everything
that is good is high in something
and will hurt you. I know you have
heard of people living to 100 and
never watch their diet. I guess
it is in our genes or jeans.
I always hear someone say "Something is going to get us" that is true but I will try too
keep it from getting me to soon.

I tell John if it's good don't eat it. I take Niacin for my low good cholesterol. John's hands have started hurting real bad at night, I think it's from the pill he takes for cholesterol. Do you do surgery too? I don't want any, just asking. lol

I too have read about the advantages of grass fed beef. This was an interesting read.

I agree with this too. I have eaten butter for years and years before it was found to be better than margarine.

I agree about the statins - although my son and DIL do not.

My problem is the refined sugar.

I yi yi~ I hate the thought of all these doctors prescribing this for this and that for that. The docs have to prescribe what the pharmacies insist they try on us experimental rats. I suppose that's why it's called a medical 'practice.' It seems that NO ONE knows for sure what works.
I would think that the best way to live longer is to eat unprocessed foods, eliminate salts and sugars and hope for the best.
I need good luck with that.

I'm afraid the good doctor made an assumption when he says the recommendations of reducing fat in the diet have resulted in an obesity epidemic. Could it be that folks just haven't followed the reommendations? (Although I do think fat has been given a bad rap.)

That was an interesting article, Jack. I had not heard that "theory" before with inflammation. All I do know is it seems like people younger and younger are having heart attacks or needing bypass surgery or having diabetes, kidney failure, etc. I remember when I first started working in medicine, it was the older people in their 60s and 70s having such problems, now it is people in their 40s and sometimes as young as 30s. I think it ultimately depends on how many days God has ordained to us and we should do the best to take care of the body he gave us here.

There are so many opinions out there today that it is very confusing and difficult to know what is best to do. I guess I'll keep trying to do the best I can with what I've got and trust in the good Lord to take care of the rest.
