The Christian

I have known some REAL CHRISTIANS in my life. By that I mean they seemed to follow the Bible as they were taught.  Most of You know the list (partial):

1  Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

2    Turn the other cheek.

3  If you are sued for your shirt give them your coat also.

4  If you are forced (asked) to go a mile, go two.

ETC.

In the right frame of mind we can keep the above, BUT…..

BUT, but many of us Christians find it hard to do the  'turn the other cheek thing. When they are already mad.'

It is easy to love thy neighbor, if they are one of the good guys.

Not OBERSERVING the above is one reason we are also GRATEFUL that we have  a Good Father who is FORGIVING. Not unlike most of us with our kids & pets.(lol)

The rub comes when the ‘Christian’ becomes their worst enemy trying to force others to 'SEE THE LIGHT' (as they see it).

They play "CHRISTIAN card" and many times the response is:

And you call yourself a Christian...

 OR

If you are a Christian, I sure do not want to be one!

 Oh and then.....

People like friend Sharon may ask:  "Is it right for a preacher to live in a multimillion dollar mansion, fly a 65 million $ plane and take money from a widow?"

MY answer: Personally I do have a problem with that, but the answer is above my paygrade, and God has not asked me what he should do about it yet.

Until I learned that my FAITH is PERSONAL I was a wandering soul.  Then I read again what my friend Paul wrote: ‘Let every man work out his own salvation with fear and trembling.’  I figured if I must take care of Jack, that's handful enough. (ask Sherry!)

Side note: After I told Sherry my decision and my opinion on ‘God’, I do not remember her bringing up the subject again over the next few years.  She stayed the sweet Christ-like lady she had always been.

After a stern lecture from a Navy Chaplain in DC, I continued to attend church with Sherry.

One day it hit me like a bolt from the blue ‘IT IS TIME, COME HOME.' My confidence in the fact there is a GOD was real again.  The only other time this has happened was when I had what I could call nothing other than an 'Epiphany' concerning my Sherry and how important she has been in my life.

So now I’m okay with The Father and Sherry.  Pretty good company.  I am still the guy everyone loves (Well at least my grandkids do!)

Nite Shipslog.

PS:
This is the last you will hear from me on Religion or Politics. Did I say that once before????  I do apologize for the length. We will do a fun one tomorrow about names and initials.....

Sherry was a great Christian lady following what the Bible said when you went "astray" for a little bit. She probably did a whole lot of praying during that time I would imagine! I am still working out my salvation too on certain issues. Its hard not to get angry when someone has wronged my family or me, but got to remember to forgive (not necessarily forget) and to always pray for one another.

I always look forward to your post. I don't always have the time to leave a comment, but try to get around reading. I think sometimes we all wonder about what happens after life, but I'd rather believe then not to believe. You and Sherry are two of the sweetest people I've known and it was a pleasure getting to meet you I love you guys. Take care. Jean

Thats better. Great post agian Jack. Ive always believed there are Christians and then there are "born again" Christians. Many people call themselves Christians simply because the believe in God and the Bible but they still so lost.
Ok im ready for the fun stuff... bring it Jack!

So glad you had your Epiphany moment and your sweet Sherry. Sending you both a hug! It's a cold day here in Ohio!

Well I can see you have been in deep thought..It is Christmas and time to get into the spirit. Our weather is cold and feel like Christmas weather. GOD is good and there for us when we call upon him. Thank you JESUS

The above is the one I'm glad about. I can see living without a God(I do it), but I cannot see you living without Sherry. I might have liked hanging out with you when you went astray ;o.

Good company, indeed!
Ya, I love me the Lord's Prayer, 'cept I always speed up and/or stumble over my vowels when I get to that part about forgiving.

Like my Mama and Papa always said, "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." HE has made it all and all we need do to find belief is look around us.......everything is a gift.
Up north at the moment, it's zero degrees, expecting minus -4 by morning....almost cold enough to stick our nostrils together and ice Bill's whiskers.....advise is ' HUG FOR WARMTH '
