'THE' Christmas of my youth

Senility has been a smooth transition for me.  I took that from a friends Blog.  Probably not original but seems to fit. I am at the stage I do that joke thing about old folk: I start a job, see another that needs doing and start it, see another one and…. ETC

Twice this week I did this. At times it is fun…. LOL
Not this one of course, My brother Jr had this one when he came back from WWII
Yep, I really do that. After finishing some job I will see tools I had out and remember I was doing something else earlier that day.

It is hard for me to think Christmas is just a couple days away. The spirit of Christmas is now what I enjoy. Seeing the kids excited and thinking of ‘yesteryear’.

In less than a month I will be 78 years old. That means at least 75 Christmases I was old enough to know about the baby Jesus and Santa Claus.  Of course Santa is much more important at the early age. But I remember 1945 more than any other Christmas of my life. That year Dad bought me a used 20” Indian make, bicycle. I think that is strange because I went with him to buy it. He gave $3 for it (a fortune to me) but he wouldn’t let me ride it and took it home and hid it. I had no idea where. But there it was cleaned up and shiny on Christmas morning, Santa had brought it.
(This one without the lite horn box, chain guard and luggage rack.)
Yep, I was that gullible, Shirl had already taught me to ride. When we lived out in the country.  She had a bike.  So I could already ride. (There are times big sisters are sweet! Thanks Shirl!! ) LOL  I about rode the tires off that bike on Christmas around and around the block. We lived inside the city limits of Burlington, NC and there was a side walk all the way around the block. By the end of the day I could ride with ‘no-hands’.

Of all the Christmases of my life that one stands out, I was 6 years old. Now I see a 6 year old and wonder if they will remember something that happens at 6 when they are in their 70’s.

MERRY Christmas to all, remember, Life Is Good!

I think my most vivid memory of Christmas was in 19 and 56, I got a Daisey, Red Ryder BB Gun complete with the compass in the stock, and with it was 3 tubes of BB's. Coming from a family of 8 kids Christmas was not a lot of toys, I remember I got dressed, headed out doors and was ready to hunt.
some of the others also.
My first Bicycle was when I worked all summer on a farm in exchange for a Schwinn Bicycle. Wish I still had it.
You 2 Have a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Mama bought a bicycle for me and my sister to share. We hadn't even thought of getting one. My sister didn't take to it too well so I almost had it to myself. I always had a skinned up knee because I would run with one foot on the peddle and try to jump on. Needless to say me and bike fell to the ground. Don't know why I was determined to do this.

Life is good because God is good :)

Great memory with the bike! I bet you were so excited to finally see it back again on that Christmas morn! The adventures you took with it.

Christmas is definitely a lot more fun when there are young ones to experience the joy through their eyes, but it amazes me we are already here at Christmas this time of year. Where or where did 2016 go?

On to 2017 and it will be a good year!!!

The Christmas I remember most was getting bike too! Cant remember how old I was. Though I had a bike, i wanted a bike with knobby tires so I could ride with boys. Santa brought me a big pink Huffy bike. I was then able to jump the hills, pop wheelies and ride without my hands. I beacame the cool girl on the block and kept up with the boys.

Happy Christmas Eve!

I vividly remember one Christmas after I'd graduated high school and before I left home, my folks asked what I wanted for Christmas and I needed a couple of new tires for my old used car. They said that's all you get, they are expensive...so there I was on Christmas Day sporting 2 new tires and very happy at that. Remember Christmases past is a wonderful thing. Glad you too have some good ones!

I remember we always tried to find our presents that they would hide until Christmas. I was so excited about getting dolls..Mother would get a doll clean it up and put new clothes on it and that was my present..They were always beautiful.
Life is good and I am very thankful for all my blessings.

Jack your recall of childhood events is amazing! I reckon all the house challenges have a lot to do with your thinking you have early onset senility! Some great memories from everyone ~ fun reading. Merry Christmas to all!!!

What a cutie I imagine you were, fast-peddling that bicycle around and around the block!

I'd be hard-pressed to recall what I received at 6 y/o, or when I received my first two-wheeler. My parents were wonderful, hard working regular folks ..... but how they spoiled me -- to excess. Perhaps because I was an 'only' child? ... Maybe on account I was so dadgum homely? (LOL.)
At any rate, one year I recall hiding some of my new 'stuff' before friends came over, because I didn't want them to feel bad.

It's true, one best appreciates the few and far between.

Merry Christmas blessings to you and Sherry!
