The Milk Man

Early interesting vehicles:
Every town I lived in the Milk trucks were snubnosed.

For today:
Some people who read this blog can remember when milk was delivered to your door. The one thing I will always remember was daddy going out to get the milk and slipping on ice and sliding all the way off the porch It was only about 2 feet high. The milk jug was not broken. But he was in his ‘night shirt’ and it hurt his ego. LOL
Funny that, many occupations had a uniform.

I was always amazed at the milk bottles. The neck was always cream and the milk had to be shaken so it would pour whole milk. There were times mama would pour off a little cream if some recipe called for ‘cream.’
Mama like everyone else, washed the jugs and set them out on the porch for the milk man to take back to the dairy. Back then glass bottles were returned and reused. There were very few exceptions.
Orders and notes to the milk man were left in the empty jars, I ran across a few of them (I think these were from Old England).

**Dear milkman: I've just had a baby, please leave another one.

**Please leave an extra pint of paralysed milk.

**Cancel one pint after the day after today.

**Please don't leave any more milk.  All they do is drink it.

** Milkman, please close the gate behind you because the birds keep pecking the tops off the milk.

**Milkman, please could I have a loaf but not bread today.

**Please cancel milk. I have nothing coming into the house but two sons on the dole.

**Sorry not to have paid your bill before, but my wife had a baby and I've been carrying it around in my pocket for weeks.

I hope you got a laugh. Take care, Life is good.

I remember milk being delivered by the milk man but I don't remember if my mom ever wrote notes to him. Those are precious notes that you shared with us!

I do remember those days when we had milk delivered. When my children were young. It was nice too that he even had eggs or butter on the truck if you needed it and ice cream too. I wish we still had that kind of service.

I wonder what the milkman said, if he took them home to show his wife, or what?!

We had milk cows with cream in abundance.

I only vaguely recall milk deliveries in my early childhood. I've never been a fan of drinking milk, but was convinced it tasted better in the brown bottles. Those notes are so funny!

We had milk delivered when we first moved here I wish they still delivered it.I think all the dairies around here have closed down. Enjoyed the notes.

We had a milk man and a peddler.
I snorted tea out my nose when I read the one about the new father :)

Before my time but If you think about it, food delivery is slowly coming back. I remember Charlie Chip deliveries.
