Why would anyone….

Early interesting Cars:
The '49 Ford, new the year I met my first life-long friend.

And so today:
I met Vondale in 1949 we have been friends ever since. He has been very successful. He has changed occupations paths many times, probably not as many as I, but still a few. The jobs I know of was heavy equipment, moving dirt. Then digging in dirt with a back hoe, many jobs. Then burying cable for cable companies, installing incinerators to burn city waste to produce energy. A bit of farming then raising chickens. The chickens  became the winner.
We lost contact for many years, seeing each other maybe once a year. ATM’s? I had never heard of them. Once on a double date with our wives, on one of the few yearly occasions we went by an ATM for him to withdraw money. A first for me,
Vondale is an action character. He raced cars, micro-minnie’s, motor cycles and got his pilot’s license. His vacations is to take his nephews and others on weekly 4 wheel excursions in the back woods of West Virginia.
I like all that stuff, but ‘action’ is not my bailiwick. Once together on our rare times he heard we were hiking the AT. His question was, “Hey jack, I know you can do it, but why would you want to?”
Typical for one of his ‘turn’. That is not exciting or fast enough for him and he is almost as old as I am. Hahaha.
In my life I have met many people who could not see (understand) anyone else’s goals or dreams if different from theirs.
If someone’s interests do not coincide with mine I do try to give them some slack.
And contrary wise, there are some interests I cannot do but ‘envy a little’ folks that can.  Such as Dancing. Our friends Dan and Joan could ‘cut a rug’ when we were all younger. They were the couple that the other dancers backed up off the floor to watch. We attended the division parties, but ate and sat and watched the dancers. I wanted to do that. Just never did. LOL
I guess traveling and enjoying nature (other than work) are my interests.

My husband owned a 49 Ford.when I met him. It was a rust bucket, and we had to be careful when getting inside it not to step through the floor. Those were the days...nothing like the one you pictured, it was covered in a grey primer coat but it ran. We didn't mind at all as it got us where we needed to go. It was in 1950 ND WE THOUGHT THE WORLD WAS OURS. Glad you have an interest other than work. everyone needs to have some fun. All work and no play is not good for anyone.

Yep, "Why would anyone WANT to (fill in the blank)." How many times has THAT crossed my mind. Or, that sounds fun but I'm not willing to do what it takes to ...
Momma always used to say, "This world would be a mighty boring place if everyone liked the same things." So true, but I value compatibility, too!

What is interesting is that some couples get together who are exact opposites with what they enjoy doing. Like hubby and me. He likes to camp and my idea of camping is a Motel 6. We eventually found things we did enjoy to do together. I'm with you about dancing. I have 2 left feet. Didn't do much dancing, but always admired those that can! DIL can dance really well, son can't. I hope the wee one inherits the dancing gene from here!

After reading your book I STILL want to hike. I get it! Nick don't.

Jack and I have a few things we enjoy together and some we have that are just ours. I listen as folks tell me where, or what and also how they have been doing or going and I applaud their adventuresome spirits, and have found some new things to do. But not everything floats my boat...like boats, I get seasick...but differences make the world interesting! I think you and your wife have had some pretty interesting and fun adventures..keep it up!

WOW, that last comment is downright scary! Would never get suckered into that one. As for dancing, I always wanted to be a great dancer with hubby but never happened. We're content holding one another waltzing something slow. Besides, then you can hug too. There are lots of things I wish I could do or could have done., but since it never happened and never will, I won't loose any sleep over it. I do love that everyone has their own dreams to fulfill to keep our world a great place. No one can take our dreams from us. I admire folks such as yourselves for the hiking ability especially at such a great capacity as the AT. You go Jack and Sherry!
love n' hugs from up north where Bill and I love gardening together, and working little projects at the cabin. It's our AT.....
