Bats

 Autos of beauty

           1956 Ford Convertible

BUT for today:

BATman was one of my favorite comic book characters. As a kid I was thrilled once traveling with mom & dad west on US 74 in the NC mountains. We passed Lake Lure (MUCH LATER where Sherry & I spent our one night honeymoon), then Chimney Rock and I then I saw a sign (x) miles to Bat Cave, NC. I was thrilled.

We did stop and get some Apple cider (at the ‘only store I saw there).  But I have yet to see that cave and we have stopped there many times in our life time. Now I am wondering if there is a cave?

Once or twice we actually camped at a campground in Michigan called ‘Bear Cave’. At ‘check in’ we asked if there was a cave. “Oh yes, over there is the entrance (she pointed to a door) you can go in if you like, but I am not going with you, the BATS scare me to death. WE did and the bats did upset my lovey.

As I grew up I heard the statement many times, “….. like a BAT outta hell!

I forget that a Bat is an animal.

Some creatures have a very important purpose in our lives but not all.

Importance of Bats

                      They can sleep  upside down

The newsletter from, "The Texas Gardener Seeds" said: Put up a bat house to encourage the presence of these shy animals.

Bats consume 3,000 or more mosquitoes and other insects nightly, and bats are less likely to be rabid than dogs are

Need another reason?

Bats are responsible for up to 95 percent of the seed dispersal essential to the regeneration of forests.

Our planet is populated with plenty of bizarre and astonishing creatures.  Here are three from the Bat Family.

Sucker-footed bat

(Instead of sucker foot I would have called it Big Ears! )

Red-winged fruit bat

So most Bats have a useful purpose for today, some even consider

Ding BATS as purposeful, we all know at least one. Archie knew a lot of 'em!

Hahah! I miss Archie and Edith Bunker!

So thanks for today's lesson. From the close-up, they're adorable. Those eyes! Wondering if -- like a mouse -- fear stems from their speed and ability to startle us (me).
Because our girls are fascinated/possessed by the chipmunks that live under the deck, I'm not in a hurry to build a bat house. But it's good knowing I shouldn't be afraid of them.

I've been to Carlsbad Caverns but not at the time when the bats come out. They look a little creepy to me!

This is an interesting post ~ great pics! When your son Mark came to Chobee he found bats in my belfry, the shower ceiling was their hangout, OMG! I really like the idea of their eating mosquitos, but just cannot imagine giving those bats a "home", they are scary! Hope you're having a good time, be safe. Love, Glenda

Although bats do have benefits, I'm not so sure I'd like to visit a bat cave. It's something I can do without. Its good they are good for something, but no one likes it if one gets in their house. I'ver heard tales of them coming down the chimney. into their home. They are still a bit scary.

I saw a bat on the beach one time. Didn’t have my camera so I had no proof and the story is unbelievable. But it’s true.
I have never seen a bat cave in Bat Cave, NC.
