We are back in Belmont now. We have heard that a childhood friend, and my first ‘crush’ in Belmont, is in the hospital. Martha has been in declining health for some time, requiring constant oxygen.

They say it is from working in the cotton mill and breathing the floating fibers. Most everyone who worked in the mills here came home with white hair and clothes, from the floating cotton. The result many times is Brown Lung.

As you get older you hate to hear this, not only sympathizing with the friend but knowing that you are in line, according to age.

I can never get over how young people today see old folks, looking at an old man or woman unless you know them, you have no idea what they have done in their lives. And If I remember correctly, I was the same way as a youth. Can you remember when 35 was old?
My ‘nother BIL Elmer, I mentioned a few days ago is 81 and just had a knee replacement, it doesn’t appear to be working. It has been three months now and he still requires a walker. Seeing Elmer now you would never know he had foiled two armed robberies and established a profitable business. In the mean time helped to foster two more businesses for free.

I mentioned that because we attended the same church. Elmer and Lennie were in the Young married class, folks 35 and up. We were in the Young people’s class(16-25), Elmer and Lennie were OLD.

Okay should I take the cholesterol medicine or not?(yeah it is still on my mind) Thanks for all the advice and suggestions.
Can you guess that I think my C (hard word) will be high? LOL
Thanks for coming this way,

Nite Shipslog

PS:
WHAT HAVE WE LEARNED IN 2,064 YEARS?
"The budget should be balanced, the Treasury should be refilled, public debt should be reduced, the arrogance of officialdom should be tempered and controlled, and the assistance to foreign lands should be curtailed lest Rome become bankrupt. People must again learn to work, instead of living on public assistance."

EVIDENTLY NOTHING...

It seems just yesterday I was 35 now my youngest son is 30 so I guess I must have aged some. Hope the test brings you some good news and then you won't have to worry about the meds.

you know Jack, you do a lot of exercise and that does help with cholesterol. I would just wait until you got the numbers.

that is sad about Martha, especially if it was caused by her former employment. its like coal miners getting black lung

I remember the first time some one called me ma'am. I was all of 41 or 42. I looked around and wondered who they were talking to and realized it was me. Surely I couldn't be that old. Now 10 years later, I must be ancient history :)

TO JACK, SHERRY AND ALL OTHERS.
THAT WHICH I WILL SAY HERE WILL NOT MAKE ANY NOTICABLE DIFFERENCE NOW OR IN THE FUTURE, SO WHY AM I BOTHERING ?

THIS COUNTRY IS PROBABLY GOING TO HAVE SOME VERY TUFF TIMES IN THE NEAR FUTURE.
OBSERVING THE 'POLLS', THERE IS A PERCENTAGE OF THE POPULATION THAT WOULD SEEM TO LIKE TO HAVE THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT ALL POWERFUL. THAT PERCENTAGE IS BETWEEN TWENTY FIVE AND THIRTY. MY BELIEF IS THAT THOSE WHOM WOULD HAVE 'BIG DADDY' ALL POWERFUL WHEN BUNCHED UP WOULD CONSIST OF, FIRST, THOSE WHOM ARE ON THE GOVERNMENT PAYROLL, WHETHER FEDERAL, STATE OR COUNTY, TAXPAYERS PAYING THE SALARY AND MANY ARE NEEDLESS JOBS AS IS VERY OBVIOUS.
THEN 'WELFARE' CHECKS SOME OF WHICH MAY BE QUESTIONABLE IF UNDER SCRUTINY.
( STILL LISTING THOSE THAT CONSTITUTE THE PERCENTAGE THAT LIKES CONTROL BY BIG DADDY).
IF CRIMINALS WERE INCLUDED IN THE 'POLL' THEY NO DOUBT WOULD LEAN TO BIG DADDY, KNOWING VULNERABLE ONES TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF.

HOPEFULLY THE BAD AND SAD TIMES WILL NOT COME, HOWEVER, IF THE CHECKS STOP BEING SENT, MANY OF THIS PERCENTAGE DESCRIBED HERE MAY BE UNHAPPY TO THE EXTENT OF SEVERELY UNLAWFUL ACTIONS. ANY ADVICE FOR 'BIG DADDY'? sam

Sorry to hear about your dear friend Martha being so ill. My prayers are a comin'...
Elmer looks like a teddy bear to me, so I send him one of my bear hugs and pray his knee improves.
Old is in the eye of the beholder and YES, I remember thinking my Aunt Eunice and Uncle Eddie were old and they were only 30. They have since passed to heaven at the Young ages of 37 and 62.
You will far surpass most of your friends because of pure determination. Don't worry so much. God is not going to take us until He is good and ready for us. You, my friend, have too many more examples to set.
I mis-spoke yesterday---I take the Gemfibrosol for high Triglycerides, which is part of the big C problem...anyway...good luck making that decision. Grams never took a pill other than aspirin and never saw a doctor until she was 92. Somehow, I see YOU in that catagory.
God Bless Ya and STOP WORRYING,...worry just adds to the problems

YOu need to find the number of the big "C".
If you are 200 or less you will be OK. Now I
think they have said 205. Who knows what the
future holds. I need to have my big "C" checked
this month. When is come from both sides of the
family we don't have a chance. I try to eat
healthy but impossible when you are around people
who love to eat.

As I'll be 36 in September this year, I hope that I'm still young ;)
Please have a wonderful Tuesday.

It's sad that your friend is sick with brown lung. So many have died too young and un-necessarily - but then we did not know to wear face masks to filter out the lint. Like my Daddy was wont to say - "I want to get old. The only alternative is to die young!"
