Bing Crosby, Counting your Blessings

I’ve been thinking about this: How does one think about nothing? Have you ever lay in bed, could not get to sleep, because you were thinking about family or work. Then you tell yourself I have got to get some sleep, I have to go to work in a little while and try to clear your mind?

Well I have, and believe me it is hard to think about nothing. It is like thinking about nobody, it is impossible.

I have at times tried to concentrate on some beautiful waterfall we have seen or a rushing mountain stream.

I also remember a song by Bing Crosby and I think to count my blessings.

(And here is Chief Petty Officer Crosby)

When I'm worried and I can't sleep
I count my blessings instead of sheep
And I fall asleep counting my blessings
When my bankroll is getting small
I think of when I had none at all
And I fall asleep counting my blessings

I think about a nursery and I picture curly heads
And one by one I count them as they slumber in their beds
If you're worried and you can't sleep
Just count your blessings instead of sheep
And you'll fall asleep counting your blessings

I have more blessings than I can count. I have honestly gone to sleep thinking of them.

Last nite, as I tucked Sherry in (yeah lately I have tucked her in every night), I told her how much she means to me and how lucky I know I am. No matter the problems in our lives, having her to lean on has always served as an anchor.

We joked about my ‘Wonder’ entry, and decided I really am a ‘wondering wanderer’. (Today ‘Y’ used that in a comment)

I told Sherry she had been the most stable thing in my life. She is the ANCHOR. Yes, I am a wanderer. She knows I always have been. BUT she has been the pivotal point, when wandering meant going wild; she knew how to rein this guy in. Now, because she has given stability to a ‘dedicated wanderer’, we can wander at leisure.

I just count all my blessings. Oh, for sure we have been good stewards with money, because of her frugality we have lived pretty well ‘debt free’, seldom buying unless we could pay for it, and ALWAYS saving something if it was nothing more than fifty cents.

Now I cannot count all the blessings, so I sleep well now.

Thanks for coming by the log,

Nite Shipslog

This could have been over heard when this car was new:

I think it is impossible to think about nothing ~ I will try your thinking about my blessings of which I have many ~ but having said that I have never had much trouble falling asleep it seems to come naturally ~ Ally x

Your Sherry is a wise woman and I know that you two are both very blessed to have each other. Counting blessings is the best thing to do for a lot of reasons. Sleeping doesn't seem to be a problem here at all either. We have another Sunny day in Ohio! That is a blessing!

Sometimes 'nothing' is the very reason why things work, function - such as a glass, a door etc.
And yes, sometimes things aren't seen, yet most important. A good night and weekend as well for you all.

Have more blessings that can be counted here! I know for sure I can't count them between the time I lie down and the time I awake - for that is usually very short; like less than 5 minutes. That's one big blessing. Having you and Sherry as friends is another big blessing. And you also have introduced me to some might nice folks here in the blogger world. Another blessing. So I'll sleep well know that.

I meant "between the time I lie down and the time I fall asleep!" Ha. Communication skills does not seem to be one of my blessings!☻

You two make such a great team. That is so sweet that you tuck her in.

I'll try to remember to count my blessings more often.

We ’re like you and Sherry we don't buy anything if we don't have the money to pay cash for it.
We aren't rich we have what we need and live comfortable. I can count my blessing for that. Great entry I enjoyed.

I am bless to have you as a Brother and Sherry as my Sister-in-law.

When I can't sleep I try to quote Bible
Scriptures by memory. I will start with "In the beginning God created the Heaven and Earth.
I need to learn more Bible Scriptures. I will
learn more Scriptures.

With my severe insomnia, it is hard to sleep when I allow things to rent space in my head no matter how hard I try to overcome this problem.

You both are blessed to have each other.

Keep tucking Sherry in at night! Sweet!

Hugs, Rose
