Should we change the National Anthem?

Our President once said our Anthem was war like, and not conducive to peace with other nations.

Now I see on AOL news that it is time that we changed our anthem because it is too war like. Changed to What? I could agree to America the Beautiful I guess, the anthem IS very hard to sing and it take a great voice with a lot of RANGE to do it justice, we all know that but maybe that is a good challenge. Who knows?

But as I was telling Sherry on our walk yesterday evening, our problem is, even our grand children have no idea what WAR is like. I mean a war that threatens us here on home soil. (As the folks in England and Europe DO!)

I personally regret that we ever entered into a GROUND WAR in Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Every one of these wars (If we really had to fight them), I think should have been fought from afar, using satellite surveillance, missiles and bombs, if at all. Take out the tyrants and let the people rearrange their country themselves. Of course that is too simple for a complex problem I know.

What I was telling Sherry, to us here in the USA, the outcome did not affect us at all. (It affected the families of the troops and the troops themselves). We lost the war in Vietnam, but it did not hamper our everyday life. We lost over 50,000 wonderful young men, mostly from the USA. Desert Storm and the Iraq invasion did not affect our lives here in the USA. Win, lose or draw, we lose men and money but our everyday life is not affected. So most young Americans have no idea what war is about. They cannot believe anyone would want to come to the USA and take our freedom away.

But today there are still men like Tojo, Mussolini, Edi Amine and Adolf Hitler. If they only get their hands on the power to destroy ANY FREEDOM LOVING COUNTRY, including ALL OF EUROPE, Canada, the UK and the USA, they would do it in a minute.

I know it is hard for these young folk to understand that a military force is required to protect our borders and our freedoms. Tomorrow I might address this a little more. This is getting too long.

Thanks for coming this way.

Excellent entry Jack! My husband and I have this discussion quite often about wars not even being fought like wars, they've become a political board game. I pray for wise leadership and for the protection of our country. I'm afraid our military is deteriorating before our very eyes.

No! We should not change our national anthem. We need to teach the meaning behind the song to our children and recognize that peace comes at a price. We're becoming a nation of softies. Long live the star-spangled banner! God Bless America! How's that for a politically correct response? ☻

No, I hadn't heart that choice piece of news and NO, I wouldn't change our Anthem. How strange that people have nothing better to do than think up ideas off the wall like that. There are to many more important things these great minds could pay attention to. God Bless America!

I remember two older brothers in Navy and I in
the first grade. We had the 2 navy stars
hanging in the window. I remember the air
raids and making sure no light could be seen
from outside. I remember you taking the broom
as a gun and helping fight the war. You did a good job keeping us safe.
