Fort Huachuca, AZ

I had a entry awhile back about our stay at the home of the  Buffalo Soldier. I then talked about Tombstone, and the Earps.

The area is filled with Old West History. We were privileged to drive up to the Chiricahua Monument.  Now I am used to a monument being a statue or something like The Washington Monument, or Lincoln Memorial, imagine my surprise when it was a huge plot of land dedicated to the Chiricahua Indians. The formations are something like the ones in Utah at the Arches National Park.  Very interesting indeed.

On the way to the Monument we went to Wilcox, AZ.

One of my favorite singing Cowboys. Always with that hat on the back of his head. It is said that he was the only true COWBOY  of all the singing cowboys, he was raised on a ranch and knew which end of a horse could bite.  The museum is like most small museums, GREAT and not well attended.

There were a wealth of ghost towns around these parts, over 30 dead towns, from the days of Silver mining.

Just South of Wilcox is Cochise Strong hold. A place for the tribe and Cochise to live and no one could flush them out.

Sherry at the only entrance to the Strong Hold.

There was even more to see. We went south, near the Mexican border and went into a cave that we had to crawl into the entrance. It is owned by the State, but has never been set up for tourists. We were allowed to go in if we had enough flash lights, they required at least two.

Very big cave once inside but very eerie. AND so dark it ate up the light from the flash lights.

That area of Arizona is great to visit.

Thanks for coming by the log.

Observations on Ladies Growing Older

***** Your mascara clumps , and your eyebrows are disappearing.
***** You don't have hair under your arms and very little on your legs, but your chin needs to be plucked daily.
*****What used to be freckles are now liver spots.

It is a beautiful area for sure. All those huge stones towering up every where in sight made me think of a gigantic cemetery. Its very nippy here with an Arctic blast coming our way. Just got in from grocery shopping, just in case I can't get out. I'm now stocked up once more.

Spiffy little 4 door convertible!

Love me some southeast Arizona...it was Don's favorite state and his favorite area! He wanted to be buried in the "new" cemetery south of Fort Huachuca...the Fort cemetery filled up, so the state and the government came up with a lovely new one at the foot of the Huachucas!

I rarely use make up these days...but maybe I should I've been noticing that a lot of the OLDs (Old Lady Divas) use makeup, hey why not!

Haven't had to pluck my chin yet har har har!!!!!! And I was promised NO hair underarms or on legs, hey what gives...it's still growing strong!

As long as the freckles turn into liver spots and not skin cancer I'm good!

All those magnificant rock formations reaching up to touch the heavens. Just breathtaking. Once upon a time, the hubby and I did a little spelunking. We saw lots of bats. Thanks for the tour. ENJOYED it. Take care.

Like all the pictures. Looks like a very interesting place to visit. How did you know I'm an old lady with those hair problems?

Thank you for this glimpse of your environment. Amazing piece of nature these mountains.
And yes, one of the first books I read was about Cowboys, still remember a few lines, but not the title though.
Please have you all a kind weekend ahead.

Delightful!
«Louis» hadn't thought of Rex Allen in quite some time.
Being the old car buff that he is, he appreciated seeing the 1935 Ford.
;-D

I feel uneasy in a cave or maybe more like what you said, eerie. I am glad that you and Sherry keep on traveling and taking pictures. That is the only way I will ever see places. Good pictures bvut it looks dort of wild.

Hey, thanks for yet, another great guide service to more places of interest. Those monuments, are very awesome. We crawled through some caverns in south Missouri when Andy was 12. He, being long and lanky like yourself, had no problem but some of those passes were a mite narrow. Very interesting tho. It was my first time seeing stalagtites and stalagmites. So cool. I wish I could remember the name of that place. I'd like to go again. Anyway, thanks for the memory of time passed. As for the hair situation, not funny. Truth hurts...lol.
