Tom Clancy

Tom Clancy

At age 66 Tom has passed from this life. Like many fans each has their own reasons. Mine? I was traveling and alone. I was just spending time at Sam’s Club. There on a table was a very big and thick book.  Looking at it, I estimated it would take me 2-3 months to read it.

At that time I was not a reader. I read only things related to my work or occupation. On this trip I was gong to have a lot of time on my hands, why not read.  Well this thick book, “Executive Orders” turned out to be the most interesting thing I had EVER read. I finished the book in about four days.  I was amazed at myself for devouring the book so rapidly.  Tom held my attention from the first few words.

Since that time, inspired by Clancy’s spell binding story telling I have read over 900 books and published  7. I have favorite authors that I have read everything they have written. Other than Clancy, I became addicted to Louis L’amore.

My friend Sonny, had everything Louis had written in leather bindings. He loaned me half one year and the the other half the next year.

Authors I have followed and liked:   Archer (16), Baldacci (15), Clancy (25), Robin Cook (19), Cussler (25), Deighton (12), Flynn (9), Follett (20), Grisham (18), Jack Higgins (50), Hoag (15), Karon (8), Kellerman (25), King (14), Koontz (15), Lamour (28+),Ludlum (32), O’Shaughnessy (13), Parker (25), Patterson (36), Sanders (26), Sanford (25), Sheldon (13) and many many more at 4-10 books.

Jack Higgins became my dearest writer of suspense. Jan Karon kept me with the Mitford Series, I fell in like over Father Tim.

Reading is one of the most rewarding pastimes.  It is funny it takes some longer to recognize that than others. I was in my mid 50’s before I became an avid reader.  Not everyone can keep your interest.

I miss Robert Parker, I know I will miss Tom Clancy.  If you read Clancy (Or saw the movies) which was your favorite?

Thanks for coming by the log.

PS:

Are you a reader?

If you like adventure you cannot miss Clive Cussler. His hero Dirk Pitt is the best. Clive has the Clive Cussler Museum in a hangar at the National Airport. It features at least 39 of his best auto collection.

Clive used his cars in his books and movies.

It is amazing that Clancy died so young.

Of course, «Louis» recognizes the '58 Caddy Eldorado Brougham and the '48 Packard Custom Super Eight convertible, but you've got him stumped on the car in the middle! :-)

He will be missed as many of us enjoyed his books. I've loved to read ever since I could read I guess. It's been a life long affair. So many of the authors you mentioned are my favorites too.

My eyesight has failed a lot but I was a non stop reader when I could grab the time. I am like TarryTare, my favorite writer is Darnell. His print is large enough I can read it.Before I got my first computer I would check out the large print at the library.

Reading is an awesome pleasure! So glad that you got into it. George has enjoyed some of Clancy's work. George looks for science fiction and not as much out there on that. Clancy was successful and so glad he inspired you.
Have a great Saturday.

My hubby liked Tom Clancy and would read all his books; he was intrigued with his story lines and how many characters were in them. It is good to have found the love of reading, even in your "later years" Jack. Wonderful books out there to read, indeed. Yep, I'm a reader and I'm making it a point to read more books these days.

you and Sherry have a great Saturday!

Tom Clancy is wearing the Battleship Iowa cap in the photo of him you posted. «Louis» got to see the Iowa in Richmond Harbor before she was towed to L.A. where she will become a museum.
