WHY?

for tonight.......
The funny things it seems that EVERYONE is
guilty of when they have lost their power. You go into a dark room and
automatically use the light switch then realize how much you take for granted.
Remember fans even before A/C they kept you
somewhat cool at night. WE had plenty of
time to talk in the two evenings we sat in the dark. We both lived long before the average person
had air conditioning in their home. If you were fortunate you had what was
called a ‘window fan’. The lower pane was raised and the fan would fit. We slept on the porch on real hot nights.
I was guilty once of saying I will just turn
on the box fan, Mark has left one there.
My sweetie was guilty of saying we can turn on the ceiling fan. In reality we sat on the porch until the
mosquitoes decided they wanted too much blood. Then we took the dining room
chairs and sat in front of the window that had a little breeze.
I do like the quietness of ‘no power’ that
does compensate some for the being uncomfortable.
It is nice to just talk with someone you love and is also your best
friend.
Too soon you enjoy the power when it is
restored and for a little while forget that there are still thousands of folks
without power.
Duke Energy is the power supplier in
Deltona. WE are familiar with Duke
because it originated in North Carolina with the Duke family and tobacco, then
Education (Duke University) and they diversified further to POWER.
I smiled when reading Myra’s comment that
someone in Florida had a sigh out front of their house, saying something like “Duke…
We Will trade Beer for POWER…”
Remember the thousands who are not close to being
back to normal in Texas and Florida.
NOW:
BECAUSE................
When Mary Queen of Scots went to France as a young girl, Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scots
game 'golf.' He had the first course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly
chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her.
Mary liked this a lot and when she returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice
with her. In French, the word cadet is pronounced 'ca-day' and the Scots changed it into caddie.

I did not know that about caddy.
Also beagles are cute - we had one for about two weeks until I became insane with this ones barking
The last time we had the power off - Kelly heard a train - she said where is a train around here? It was a few miles off and we don't generally hear it.
Thank God for electricity - when I was younger we had a ceiling fan - I never remember being hot.
Have a good one.

Glad you had no serious damage in Deltona, I remember Kerosene Lamps to sit and read by on the farm, a candle in a mason jar to see you way to the outhouse. We had an "Ice House" which was filled up in the winter !!! I am rambling, you 2 take care, love from the summer like days of Northern New York !
Gary
glad you had only minimal damage to your property. candles are a nice touch to a dark house.
I found it difficult when we didn't have power for almost 12 hours one time. I can't imagine days without it. You Floridians and Texans are made of mighty stock to endure these conditions!

So true we really never appreciate what we have until we no longer have it. It will be a long time before things are back to normal and for some there will be a new normal to adapt to. Electricity is one utility that is under appreciated for sure. Hope yours is back on by the time you return. Very interesting about the caddies. Who knew??? Not me for sure ! Good to hear from you again. You were missed while you were away!
Life without power these days seems unreal but it does happen. The longest ours was out was 10 days after tornado force winds that took out entire counties. Fortunately we have a generator. Otherwise things get pretty hairy with concerns of fridg and freezer items spoiling. At least we could run the gas powered generator on occasion. We never minded the 'quiet and calm.' We had over 120some mature maples and hemlock to clean up just to get to the cabin to retrieve that generator. We were blessed far more than so many in the SE. Prayers for you all.
love n' hugs. It's chilly up north with minimal rain. We could actually use a bit
Ha! (It feels good to know I'm not the only one!)
I think the last time the lights went out, I said something stupid like, "That's OK, let's turn on the radio."
The origins of Duke Energy are interesting, indeed. Duke University? Who'd have guessed! I'm going to have to try me some of that mayonnaise someday.
