More on the Screened in porch.

(Historical Photo)
(Monday wash day in NYC in 1900)
Today:
So the final figure is in, much more than I thought and Son Mark had a door and about $50 worth of the framing.  The cost of materials was $440. The door would have been about $80 + 50 free parts so the cost would have been about $570.  OUCH.

            Anyway this is a before

                       And an after:

             A before
                         And an after.

We will decide on floor covering after a few rains.  We have enjoyed two evenings sitting in the porch and love it.

Tomorrow I will complete the drainage ditch I started today. Our problem was the area around the porch is abourt 3 inches higher than the porch floor, so water is funneled in.  I hope to fix that tomorrow.
Thanks for stopping by…..  (BTW, I did not get put in the dog house for causing us to miss the launch from the beach! Sherry B sweet!)

Looks great to me too ! I do have water seep in when it rains here so I'll be interested in your drainage ditch. Problem here is where to drain it as everything sloops down to the house here and there is lots of standing puddles when it rains from one end of the house to the other. Even the driveway sits higher and their is no way round it. I have old fashioned green indoor outdoor carpet on the floor which has seen better days but still holding up with no bare spots so it will do. It is very nice to sit out there with no aggravating bugs and watch the leaves fall this time of year. If you hadn't been able to do the work yourself I can only imagine it would have cost much much more.

Okay that WAS worth the money for sure! Good luck with the drainage ditch.

You did it and kept the cost way below what we could. We also have a drainage problem at the cabin in the spring's ice melt...hope to finally resolve that issue soon with digging below foundation, ditching and then building a porch.
love n' hugs from up north.....sun is shining on the punkins'

The porch looks great! It goes well with the house! I'm impressed! As far as floor coverings? Id say just paint it! I've even seen painted porches with painted on rugs.
