Those Leaves

Historical Picture:

Nancy Reagan telling Santa (Mr. T) what she wants for  Christmas

I wanted to mention something many folk do not know. Leaves fall here.  That is one reason we wanted the screening on the porch because our porch was being covered by wandering leaves.  Yep leaves fall in Florida and they seem to fall year-round like our skin peels and hair falls out.. LOL  It is a pleasure to see the leaves on the ground and not the porch.

As I am typing I remember years ago I had bought a few extra watermelons, cantaloupes and pumpkins. I drove around on the church camp ground where my mama still lived giving them to anyone who wanted them.

I was raised in the Church of God, I never have been a very good member.  But I was raised to call folks Brother and Sister, because we were family, ;-)

I approached one of my sweet elderly friends,Sister Looney. (I was Young then, in my 50’s ). I stopped the truck and watched as she raked. “That is a tough job every year isn’t it?”

“Not for me, Bro. Jack, I am just taking my time and admiring the colors in the carpet God has given me. I take time to stop and thank him for the health I have to stand and admire this. Tomorrow it may be the same and then it just might be a deeper red.”

She took a watermelon thanked me and said, “Now later today I will enjoy some red watermelon and thank God for that also.”

I enjoy positive people. We need more of them in this life.

Your body has enough iron in it to make a nail 3 inches long.

Betcha didn’t know that!

Man, Sister Looney had it right! Fall is my favorite time of year, but I don't recall there being many leaves on Florida's gulf coast. Funny, the things one misses.

PS - Cute pix! I miss Nancy and Ron Reagan.

Nice to read your post which has different colors for each paragraph. Each para describes different matter. Need to take care around the house during Falling of leave.Beautiful image of colors and their reflection:)

Ma is one of the most positive and gratitude filled people I know! We all could learn lessons from her if we just adopted those 2 principles. Leaves fall here but they aren't the splendid colors of leaves in other parts of the country.

I am going to have to remember to be thankful when raking leaves...It is wonderful to have positive people in our lives that help to remind us of what is truly important. Giving thanks is always good! Glad you are enjoying your leafless porch. Mine is too ! Due to the colder weather that has moved in my time out there has come to a stop, but hopefully we'll have some better weather later in the week!

Oh, and thanks Betty for your compliment. Life is just too short to be anything but happy!

That photo of fall in the lake looks like what Heaven might look like.
Mr. T was on Dance With The Stars last year.

We don't have the pretty leaves here but I don't rake them anymore. I leave them for fertilizer. One year my neighbor raked little piles and left them to try to tell me to rake. Then another neighbor told him to throw then in his yard because they are good fertilizer. My neighbor never hinted for me to rake again.

We don't have a tree big enough in the front yard to cause problems, but we do get some blow over from the neighbor across the street. Hope your day is good! Sheila

the autumn ritual of raking leaves is a good lesson indeed. Sister Looney was right.
