Title: Another Car ride

Title:  Another Car ride
We enjoyed seeing all our Grands and Great Grands in the area.  It was a pleasure to see many friends also. One highlight was getting to attend the Seniors Annual Christmas party with the seniors from our home church.

And again, we ran into WalMart to get flowers for Sherry’s family graves. Of course it is impossible to do that as an in and out thing. Just inside the door was a dear friend Bobby Franklin. His family and mine go back to the 1930s. Funny that, because that is one family that Sherry’s family has known a long time also. Bobby married Violet. I knew her and her sister Pansy from their childhood. It is usually Sherry recognizing someone. Well immediately one of her classmates came in the door also.
As I finished talking to Bobby, I saw Sherry now talking to someone else that I had known long before Sherry. It was Barbara Ward Galloway. I knew her as a pig-tailed little girl in the early 1950’s. Her son Jeff was with her.
In the church world Barb’s dad was a minister and a famous song writer. T.N. Ward.
Anyway, so much for running in and out of Walmart. LOL
I did enjoy the trip home. I did get to mow the leaves, clean the gutters, blow the roofs and drives.Grand-daugher Sherece brought about thirty of our picture albums over that have been in her home taking up space. I put them in a climate controlled space downstairs. I spent a long time reminiscing.
I also dug through a few old boxes. Found all the letters I received from Sherry while I was in the Mediterranean (USN). I also ran across a few blank IBM cards that will be interesting to some of the Grands.  It is hard to believe all businesses had some association with IBM cards. I was trained at IBM. Another example of a GIANT in the business world that assumed they had the world by the tail and did not think outside of their BOX.

And a personal smile, I found my USMC dog tags. Two sets. One set stamped: Religion. Church of God and one set listed Presbyterian. I am sure when I wore them assumed the one said Protestant.
Anyway we are back in Deltona. We  reloaded the coach and are about ready for our shakedown cruise. WE arrived here about 1500 (3PM) and now at early evening most is done. Even both computers are back in the coach and  operating.

Nite Shipslog

PS:
The trip was 8 hours about 500 mi. included stops at rest areas to take a break and stretch and gas stops. Next month I won't be able to do that, I will be 80 and OLD!  LOL (Sherry drove a hundred of that)

Great tour down your own time line! Those letters, dog tags, and who knows what else you will find.

Good treasures.

8 hours later, and still you sound so chipper! Anticipation, perhaps?

Discovering those old mementos must have felt nice and warm. Like visiting an old friend. That's funny about the Presbyterian/Protestant tags. Remind me sometime to tell you Sean's take on would-be Southern Baptists, Presbyterians and Episcopalians.

I dread Walmart trips. You are correct. There is no “in and out”. We go in to grab one thing and end up with a buggy.
No doubt groceries are cheaper there but its nice to walk around a regular grocery store and shop for things I need.

Safe travels

Glad you had such a great trip, seeing family and friends and revisiting old memories. Sounds like you've got a great start on the trip ahead too. Hope you have good weather and safe travels to wherever you are off too. I've been wondering where you will spend Christmas. The only trip in my future is down the Ohio turnpike to one of my son's for our family Christmas gathering which won't be until the 29th. The good news is that roads should be good here. No snow in the forecast till after then, but we all know that is subject to change. Ha !

I am confused - are you saying you were in Florida - went back to NC and then back to Florida? How long - one day?

The travel bug has hit you two again. Happy trails.! So fun meeting old friends, old memories and those dog tags...super cool to find those. God bless you on your travels and stay safe, wherever you go. Have a very merry Christmas along the way.
love n' hugs from our home to yours. I couldn't figure out why I was feeling such a strong breeze at my feet in the dining room and here the door was ajar. We have strong winds today. Stay safe in Deltona.
