Autos of history:
For today:
Traveling re-generates words of a song
from the 1950’s, i.e.
The Cry of the Wild Goose
Frankie Laine
My heart knows what the
wild goose knows,
I must go where the wild goose goes.
Wild goose, brother goose, which is best?
A wanderin' foot or a heart at rest?
Tonight I heard the wild
goose cry,
Wingin' north in the lonely sky.
Tried to sleep, it weren't no use,
'Cause I am a brother to the old wild goose,
Normal for me, I remember only a few lines, the two that stuck out to this 4rd
grader in 1950 were: My heart goes where the Wild goose goes and I am a brother
to the old wild goose. Also ‘What is best? A wandering foot or a heart at
rest……
I do not remember the disappointed woman
in the song, BUT, I am glad I was blessed with one who shares my desire
to see around the next bend and over the next mountain. We have been very fortunate. WE have never gone hungry, but still remember
once having to borrow $60 for six months from the bank. The payments were $6.25
a month. LOL
We’ve
not seen EVERYTHING, but have appreciated what we did see.
On one of our trips around the USA one using the Northern Route going West. We stopped to see friends in Minnesota. One commented, 'you're gonna be bored driving across N. Dakota..'
Driving, we seldom get bored. There is something about Every road, Every State, to enjoy
and let it sink in.
Devil’s Lake was on that road. WE spied signs to a local Casino. (Usually reasonable food and parking). I was seeing
houses half under water and fences 'in' the lake as the road meandered. Once parked, the guy beside us commented, “So you had to come see for yourself.
Eerie isn’t it?”
I was dumbfounded, asking, “What do you mean?”
“Didn’t
you notice the lake rising? It's rising 2’ a year, it has already put some small
towns/villages under water. The Indians' say, 'The lake is angry!' It is known to them as Spirit Lake, the white man
changed it to Devil’s lake. So they say the Lake is going to wash the white man
away!”
Pictures of some of the Devil's lake destruction from the net, I cannot find our pictures....
WE did learn a lot, how could that be boring? LOL
Nite
Shipslog
PS: Note: It has quit rising, it seems the lake will not recede, that is yet to be seen. ;-O

Oh my gosh! I'd never heard of Devil's Lake or its lore. This looks like something from Ft. Myers after the hurricane.
I've said it before, Someone knew what He was doing when the two of y'all met and feel in love. Peas in a pod, for better or worse!
PS - You're right about casinos being known for their reasonable dining. Unfortunately, that's all changed -- at least down here.
Okay I am going to say God blessed you with Sherri and He blessed Sherri with you! I mean it.
So interesting about that lake, Jack! That would be a sight to see! When we take road trips and pass by the name of a city or small town, I like to google it to find out info about it, population, industry, house prices, etc. Always good to learn something new like you and Sherry have done in your travels.
betty
That ride was definitely not boring at all. What a sight to see. Glad the lade has stopped rising. Hopefully no more property will be lost. I'd say the angry indians got enough. Hope you have warmed back up there. Still cold here today !
God bless you and Sherry always my friends. You are an example to us all. Prayers.
Read this a couple of days ago, wow that lake was a mess! Interesting information!!!
