 Above was not only down South, and in Nebraska, but I was surprised to learn that Brother Woody, up in NY, is very familiar with Muddy Roads!!!

Normal for me, I remember only a few lines, the two that stuck out to this 4^rd grader in 1950 were:  My heart goes where the Wild goose goes and I am a brother to the old wild goose. Also ‘What is best? A wandering foot or a heart at rest……

I do not remember the disappointed woman in the song, BUT, I am glad I was blessed with one who shares my desire to see around the next bend and over the next mountain.  We have been very fortunate.  WE have never gone hungry, but still remember once having to borrow $60 for six months from the bank. The payments were $6.25 a month. LOL

We’ve not seen EVERYTHING, but have appreciated what we did see. 

On one of our trips around the USA one using the Northern Route going West. We stopped to see friends in Minnesota. One commented, 'you're gonna be bored driving across N. Dakota..'

Driving, we seldom get bored. There is something about Every road, Every State, to enjoy and let it sink in.

Devil’s Lake was on that road. WE spied signs to a local Casino. (Usually reasonable food and parking). I was seeing houses half under water and fences 'in' the lake as the road meandered.  Once parked, the guy beside us commented, “So you had to come see for yourself. Eerie isn’t it?”

I was dumbfounded, asking, “What do you mean?”

“Didn’t you notice the lake rising? It's rising 2’ a year, it has already put some small towns/villages under water.  The Indians' say, 'The lake is angry!' It is known to them as Spirit Lake, the white man changed it to Devil’s lake. So they say the Lake is going to wash the white man away!”

WE did learn a lot, how could that be boring? LOL

PS: Note: It has quit rising, it seems the lake will not recede, that is yet to be seen. ;-O
