I love Florida (On the Road)

Just as we got really underway this morning, I got surprised by this load of treasure as it passed.

to FL 2013 003

Then into Florida, the SUNSHINE STATE.

to FL 2013 006

I missed this, but Sherry caught the back end of a little antique Fiat (methinks) looks like the car above is hoping it will hatch.

to FL 2013 010

So we made it to Northern Florida. We will only be here a day, but time enough to pick up 75 pounds of PEE-CANS.  Sherry’s Cousin (an old guy, Ralph Hawes 86) gets Sherry pecans every year. We spend a lot of time picking them out. It passes the time and makes good gifts to friends.

We are at the Suwannee River State Park.  We were scheduled to be at the Stephen Foster Cultural Center Park, but our  reservations became confused. This park is on the Suwannee River, and you cannot help but sing the Stephen Foster song:

Way down upon the Swanee River,
Far, far away,
There's where my heart is turning ever,
There's where the old folks stay.
All up and down the whole creation,
Sadly I roam,
Still longing for the old plantation,
And for the old folks at home.

Chorus:

All the world is sad and dreary
Everywhere I roam.
O brothers, how my heart grows weary,
Far from the old folks at home
.

******************************************

We are a strange couple of old folk, Sherry and I. We still think of going to the head waters of the Suwannee and canoeing the river to the Gulf of Mexico.  I think that would be another adventure of a life time. A little over 200 miles in about 14 days, and you drift about 15+ miles a day. The current is about 2mph.  It seems quite an adventure. The only time Sherry and I were in a canoe together was in Florida and my friend Von Dale, who hates not ‘doing something’, got us in one down  the Blue Springs River methinks.

Potty time on the river, Watch for gators girls.

We are silly enough to think we could do it. But there is still other things to do, like finish the Appalachian Trail. Winking smile

So that is it for the Gypsies today, on the Suwannee in north Florida dreaming.

PS:

When you are as old as we are, at least you can dream…

canoeing

Bonnie? Is that you? I forgot I do know a real canoe’er.

I hope your pecans are better than the one's I bought. Grover and I picked out a pan full today and they're so hard to pick out my fingers got to cramping up, and some so bad we threw them away. I think they're all like that around here. You might be in for a chilly night in Florida, ha.
I know you guys were happy to see that sign. Take care. Jean

Glad you two are still having fun. Never been to
Florida but one of John's sisters has two houses there and lives in both of them.

I'm waving to you and Sherry!!
If I got up on top of the roof of our house and streeeeeeeeeeetched a bit, I miiiiight could see you. You are in Live Oak...so very near to here.
And you'll only be there one day??!!
I would have loved to have seen you two. I had a doctor's appointment today....and took Mama to the doctor yesterday. Busy, busy....but always on the lookout to be able to meet my sweet blogging friends. I know that you will be back by this way again....and I do hope that you will let me know in advance when you will be in the area. We live just across the Florida/Georgia line. Traveling path for you guys, I'm sure.
Sending you many hugs....
Singing along with you as you sing that old tune that we all loved so well.

I love that y'all never stop dreaming. Come to think of it, I should've said, making dreams come true!

Thanks for repeating those sweet (near-forgotten) lyrics!

Love that you two are still thinking of adventures to do together! That canoe trip would indeed be an experience I think! Glad you guys got to Florida safe and sound; I just can't imagine 75 pounds of pecans, delicious in my book!

Jack, is that a '51 Studebaker on that truck in the first photo? What is the older car? The Fiat is a 500.

That looks like a 50 Studebaker.
We had a 50 convertible. Maybe
you will soon get to Fl. We are
having real cold weather, but
will warm back up for the week-end.

Wonder where that Studebaker was
going.

Yes, that's me! It's relaxing to be on the lake (as long as there aren't any gators around).

Hope you all enjoy sunny Florida. Pecans are a big favorite of mine. Hope you got some good ones! I'm always surprised at the adventures you two have. There is not much you haven't seen or done. It's a great life you lead ! Hugs from northern Ohio where there is snow on the ground and it's 26 degrees this morning.

I bet you could do it too...canoeing that is. When we were dating, Rick, me, Mama and Shawn ( brother) went canoeing. I guess Rick didn't won't Mama to know he smoked so he went without all day...he was in dire straits when we got home...ha. Thankfully he has quit now. Shawn as you probably know is a big canoer, does a lot of races. Have a great time in Florida...we got a few snowflakes yesterday. Rick told me not to be snow dancing...ha...yeah right! Love from up here, Sheila

You know what - and this is a big compliment - you two both do have the heart of gypsies - and what is great about it - you both have it - wouldn't work so well if one did and one did not. Good for you. sandie
