Rainy Night in Georgia

(but we are in North Carolina & rain too)brook_benton

Funny how my mind works. I am writing what I call a ‘filler entry’. A blog entry to use when I draw a blank.  Today as we sit here in eastern North Carolina, it is raining ‘cats and dogs’ as the saying goes.

When you are in the middle of a dark cloudy, rain filled day you do get the feeling that ‘Brook Benton’ expresses in the song:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qr5djzzeA3M

Hoverin' by my suitcase, tryin' to find a warm place to spend the night
Heavy rain fallin', seems I hear your voice callin' "It's all right."

A rainy night in Georgia, a rainy night in Georgia
It seems like it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world

Neon signs a-flashin', taxi cabs and buses passin' through the night
A distant moanin' of a train seems to play a sad refrain to the night
A rainy night in Georgia, such a rainy night in Georgia
Lord, I believe it's rainin' all over the world
I feel like it's rainin' all over the world
How many times I wondered
It still comes out the same
No matter how you look at it or think of it
It's life and you just got to play the game
I find me a place in a box car, so I take my guitar to pass some time
Late at night when it's hard to rest I hold your picture to my chest and
I feel fine

(minor scat) But it's a rainy night in Georgia, baby, it's a rainy night
in Georgia I
feel it's rainin' all over the world, kinda lonely now And it's rainin'
all over the
world
Oh, have you ever been lonely, people?
And you feel that it was rainin' all over this man's world
You're talking 'bout rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin', rainin',
rainin', rainin',
rainin', rainin' rainin', rainin', rainin'

Songwriters
White, Tony Joe

Before I posted this I was talking to Shirl on e-mail and she reminded me Ray Charles done this well also.

There is not a time that we do not sing ‘Georgia on My mind’ when we see the Georgia state line as we are driving through.

I am at an age that driving at night is no fun with the lights reflecting and glaring. It has rained this whole day long. so I will post this in the morning.

PS:

And then when life turns on you, and it is raining in your world, you gotta tell yourself, BUT SELF, the sun WILL SHINE again.

I would like a rainy night as we so desperately need rain, but I'm like you, I would prefer not having to drive in such a night!

On the news it showed floods close
to where you are parked. Better get on back in NC..we are expecting rain
this afternoon..I sure it will not be like rain in your area. We need the rain. It has been dry for about 7 days.

I am now singing Georgia. Georgia, Georgia on my mind..

I love that song. Such longing.
As you know, I do filler posts too.
That where I learned to tap dance :)

My favorite song to sing when Don and I were starting out on a travel was Willie Nelson's "on the road again"!

Comment on your previous post...when I was a kid going to elementary school in Virginia all we learned was Virginia history...didn't realize that the whole world had history till I was in junior high :D :D :D

I have that song in my head now also!
Love it, have not heard it in awhile! Y'all be careful in the rain!

Conway Twitty and Sam Moore sung a version of it too. Of course, being a Conway fan, I like that version... :-) We've gotten a little rain the last few days, it must not be making it down to Shirl's. Take care, Sheila

LOVE the song. Hope there is no flooding in your area from all the rain.

If I don't see rain again for a year, I'll be a happy camper - lol! Seriously, one of the reasons I chose Arizona is because it doesn't rain very often.
I figure someone must have really annoyed Mother Nature yesterday!

Although I've never lived in Georgia I do love both those songs about it. Rainy nights are bad for me too. I used to dread driving in to work on rainy mornings when it was still dark out. I could hardly see where the road was. Thankfully I don't do that any more and nighttime driving is a thing of the past. Hope your rain has ended and the sun is out again.
