Back pocket, right side, hanky and COMB

For over 50 years, two things I carried for sure knife and comb.

NOTE: Back home from surgery.  All went well. Great care. My Home physician, Dr. Sherry is allowing me to attach this note to a pre-pared entry. A little more discomfort than I figured. THANKS for the thoughts and prayers, Life is good.

I cannot remember getting a hair cut anywhere growing up except the barber shop. I never did like to waste time getting my hair cut.

When I was little to 10 it was mostly a buzzcut (crewcut). Then I started the little ‘roach in the front.

Then the flat top for awhile.

Duck’s tail was next.

I was dating Sherry, her mama and daddy were both in house barbers and good at it. I’ve always been COOL (?). I came up with this great idea of a Davy Crocket hair cut.

Great idea. I told Mr. Ballard what I wanted he laughed, and said, your funeral. I had him raise my normal square cut but leave a tail in the middle, my impression of a coon skin cap. He showed me in the mirror, man was I going to be a hit. Start a fad, heck I could be famous.

I had a 1948 Chevrolet Convertible. Drove over to pick up my steady, for our date.

“What is the world have you done with your hair?”

“My latest idea, My ‘Coon skincap haircut’. What do you think?”

“I think I am not going out with you looking like that?”

“What?  What? This is Cool, made in the shade with table grade, stuff, come on let’s go.”

“I’m not kidding, I am not going anywhere with you looking like that.  Mama can probably fix it.”

After a little more argument, “yep mama cut my tail off!”

It hurt my feelings, but a few kisses, she fixed my feelings.

I cut the boys hair until they were 9 or 10. Once in Missouri I talked a reluctant Sherry inot cutting my hair and save us $1. She did not want to do it. But I insisted it was simple. The next day I did go to the barber and asked if he could repair a homemade hair cut.

He said,”Me and a week is all you need.” Sherry refused to try it again.

I don’t have to worry about it any more.

I no longer carry a comb, I ain’t as cool as the guys above but they never had a ‘Coon Skin Haircut’ for a couple hours I bet!

Soooo glad to know the surgery went A-OK and you're home in good spirits!

This post was a hoot. I sometimes think it's uncanny how bloggers get to thinking alike on their posts. First, 'charitable' giving; and now home-made hair-cuts. (I've a Friday letter devoted to that very subject in the next 48 hours.)
You're right ... life is good.

Glad you are home and everything went well. Looking forward to seeing
and hearing about everything. Hair styles have changed. I wish men
would look like men and girls would look like ladies. Things have
changed and we will have to live with everything being different.

Glad to hear the surgery went well! Hope the discomfort fades quickly! I know you have an excellent nurse taking care of you!

I know one thing about me and hair. It is better if I let someone else cut it, LOL :) Good thing about hair, if it is a bad cut, thankfully it does eventually grow out!
