At breakfast My girl said, “What have you planned to do today?”
“Fix the commode, grease the window curtain slides and fix a tire.”
“That can wait, lets take a drive to the mountains,”
Since I could not see a reason why not, Of course I agreed.
I have a nephew who thinks he is sick (and he really is) we could stop by and see him. We got a card and some funnies and headed out. Our family is from the old school, just drop by. Well in this instance they were gone so I left the stuff in the front door and we headed on up the road.
Forest City was once voted the prettiest town in NC, and it is.
The town has a park area with trees the length of main street.
In another life we pastored this church in Rutherfordton, NC 10 miles past Forest City.
Our destination is Bat Cave, NC Through Lake Lure and Chimney Rock. Below is out first glimpse of a mountain.
Lake Lure, Sweet memories, this is where we spent our one night honeymoon.
Color is not ready yet, below is our first glimpse of Chimney Rock. It has a US Flag atop.
Lake Lure is a beautiful blue water mountain lake.
AH, there it is, THE MOTEL.
Driving a little past it and looking back.
Heaven was found in the 2nd room up on the left. I finally saw above her ankles.
Above is Chimney Rock, below it the top (A copy of an ad in town. Of course This is a Tourist Tr--- Destination.
Hang some dresses or tops outside and label it Sale rack or Closeout and Ladies will STOP!
The Broad River beginning I always loved the rocks and freshness of the mountain water. Below is a stubborn Rhododendron flower hanging on.
At Bat Cave NC we bought some delicious apples and Cider.
Then heading home, We passed the restaurant, now closed that we went in at 2PM and ordered breakfast. (Long before breakfast was served all day). We got a funny look, but also got breakfast.
The restaurant Lake Lure Inn, later became famous for the filming of Dirty Dancing.
Then a stop by the Pumpkin patch to buy Stella and Jude a pumpkin.
We had a wonderful day, the beautiful thing was we could talk all the way up and back. (What time Sherry was not trying to smooch.)

Looks like a great trip. Scenic and full of good memories.
What beautiful country! That's pretty neat that THE motel is still in business. It appears the owners have taken very good care of it ... much like you and Sherry have each other.
Looked like a fun day:)

What a beautiful day you two had! Thanks for sharing the memories and your trip. Lovely country there.
What a great way to spend the day and the best part,
being able to talk there and back! Love from up here, Sheila
Spur of the moment trips are the best. This one looks wonderful.
I love North Carolina. It's a beautiful state. I'd love some hot cider tonight.

Brought back memories living at foot of the mountains. A short drive
and you could see beautiful country. Always liked going to the mountains and seeing all the unique shops and things for sale on the road side. "Apples and Cider". Thank for a ride through the mountains
