Sales, Salesmen, products and Surveys

I have friends who are salesmen and still honest, good guys.  One is a car salesman who is still able to function even with the ‘bad’ name that goes with ‘Used Car Salesmen’.

The one that sticks out most was a Saturn Salesman in Charlotte, NC. When we decided to travel full time in the Motor home we wanted a reliable car, that could be towed with NO ALTERATIONS with all four wheels on the ground. At the time Saturn was the only car that would guarantee an automatic transmission being towed with all four wheels on the ground.

Sherry saved her money to buy a tow car for cash. I called, got a salesman and I told him what she wanted. We bought the car and liked it.

I try to fill out surveys when I have time.  In the past few days I have filled out a couple surveys (one lengthy) only to click “SUBMIT SURVEY” and get a red flag. “You must   fill in the areas in RED.” Both times it has been ‘COMMENTS’.

Since I had ‘wasted’ a few minutes of my time  I entered:GOOD PRODUCT, ANYTHING TYPED HERE WOULD BE A DUPLICATION OF SEVERAL OF THE HUNDRED QUESTIONS. I WILL NO LONGER RATE ANY PRODUCT I GET FROM AMAZON UNLESS IT IT NEGATIVE. THANK YOU!

The other survey was a motel chain and I basically said the same.

I was on one of our construction locations, cell phone rang, “Jack here, can I help you?”

“ARE YOU TRYING TO GET ME FIRED, I TOLD YOU TO RATE ME TOP ON THE COMPANY SURVEY!”

“Who is this?” It was the Saturn Salesman I had rated, very good. I informed him that I built houses and if my customer was ‘satisfied’, I was happy..

“So let me speak to your boss.”  His mind changed and he settled down and apologized.

I may be in left field, but I think most feed back will rate a product ‘good’, unless the buyer is unhappy, THEN YOU GET COMMENTS, And that is when the seller or producer needs to pay attention.

Employee ratings have always been suggestive, unless the worker is actually incorrigible or an idiot. If a supervisor likes you he/she is going to rate you high. To be honest most workers are rated by their personality rather than productivity (Unless your job is producing widgets, and the average is 30 widgets and hour, then the call can be made: below average, average or above average.).

Sorry for a silly entry.

We try to give good ratings when asked, we also to try to tip accordingly. We look for those trying to do a good job no matter what the circumstances, but not what someone might want to expect.

Our cable service is one that stands out to me when it comes to asking for ratings. I think their service is good and let them know that. It seems every store I go to lately wants you to call a certain number and rate them too, but I don't do those. I rate them by how many times I go back. There are some places I won't go back to and that should tell them something, especially if others felt the same as I did about their bad service. We have a lovely day coming our way in the mid 70's. I'd rate it as just perfect. Can't beat a warm October day. There won't be many more.

I can't get over someone telling you what you should rate them!
I have a problem with customer service. I worked retail and had to put up with a lot of stuff and try to always be polite. Now I expect from others what I did, but that makes me a hard-to-please customer.

Boy, your last paragraph says it all! (Been there ... seen that. 'Nuff said!)

Working in the hospitality business, guests' commentary has always been encouraged. Most of the time, MOST folks are complimentary or at least careful when complaining. But it's so infuriating when I read where someone's account of their stay doesn't jive with the facts. (... and I have to respond nicely in a respectful tone. Grrrr!)

I rate according to how happy I am with the service and products If I'm unhappy I say so and why. You can spend a lot of time on surveys and as you pointed out they can be a real pain.
