Broyhill Furniture, ever hear of it?

 Little Known facts:
.....The moon is moving away from the Earth at a tiny, although measurable, rate every year. 85 million years ago it was orbiting the Earth about 35 feet from the planet's surface.

....  The star Antares is 60,000 times larger than our sun. If our sun were the size of a softball, the star Antares would be as large as a house.

... Every year 16 million gallons of oil runs off pavement into streams, rivers, and eventually, oceans in the United States. This is more oil than was spilled by the Exxon Valdez.

The  Broyhills are well known in Lenoir, NC. The founder of Broyhill fine Furniture and the home is here in Lenoir.
Sadly like the Cotton mills down in the Piedmont of NC, here Huge Furniture plants stand idle and wasting away.  The Broyhills did a lot besides bring jobs to Lenoir. There is a beautiful relaxing walking area. One day we made 4 trips around the .43 mile track.
 Lots of Geese and ducks
This shot is of one of the side trails.  Below shows one end of the lake the track goes around. You can see the paved track inthe fore ground.

Many many flowers and beautifully groomedshrubs

One side trail goes beside a rock bedded babbling brook, cool and relaxing.

Above is one of the few pieces of art in the park.  It is mostly natural.
I wanted to show this natural Granite wall, it is near 50 feet high. As I looked at it I had to wonder what natural act sheered this granite?

There are many benches in the park to relax and enjoy nature. Below Sherry is standing in front of one of the small ponds that have side trails around them.

Above is a shot of the lake that the main walking trail surrounds.
This is such a relaxing place to walk and enjoy a beautifully landscaped park, donated by the Broyhills and dedicated to Mrs. Broyhill whose idea this was.

Thanks for taking the time to look at this nice oasis in a town that, like many in the USA, has lost jobs to cheap imports.

A side affect of the furniture company was firewood! As a kid camping with family I would see campers burning beautifully turned Oak table legs. They made a great camp fire. I learned later these were the rejects, defects that cold not be accepted in fine furniture. Gathered by employees, they also heated their homes with the beautiful oak.
Sherry and I have even did this. When the companies were in full swing I scavenged some from the furniture dump!

Nite Shipslog

As if there weren't enough pictures!

Wow what a nice walk! I love walking where you can see a lot of things. We walk the same neighborhood rout every day and its getting boring. Love the ducks, but the geese leave big poops in their path. My next post will have ducks in it. Stay tuned.

Keep walking
Lisa

I had no idea! These grounds are so lovely ..... but I hate hearing of all the jobs lost. Thank you for including all these great images!

Your trivia bits are particularly interesting today. You wouldn't want to know what I had to say about the MOON the last few mornings. Come 2-3AM it goes shining smack dab between the curtain and the wall, right in my eyes. Gotta get me some duct tape!

I remember that furniture. A beautiful park for you two to spend time in.

I know you and Sherry are having a good time. I don't need to see all those
relaxing placing where you are sitting and Sherry relaxing. It makes me feel
and know what a active life I could have. I am giving up all my volunteer jobs so I can relax and maybe tell the same time...will let you know.

I have heard of Broyhill. Sad how good companies like this are being replaced for inferior products shipped from overseas. Beautiful area to walk though!

This was one beautiful walk. Such a nice place to be. I do remember Broyhill furniture . It was thought to be one of the best. I guess I didn't realize it had gone under. I haven't been furniture shopping for quite a while. So many jobs have been lost due to changing times.

I also remember hearing of Broyhill Furniture...great pieces of history.
It is always so sad to see long-lived businesses fold under what's called
' progress.' Sad. In our small town, one storefront after another has closed and going out of business signs...and each one, loosing employees that are willing to work to take care of their families. Sometimes, I hate change.
love n' hugs from up north where the six inches of rain has washed away half of our 3 gardens. Time to replant and pray.
