AGE…….. That wonderful human factor.

Little known facts:

1.    The first Fords had engines made by Dodge.

2.    In Ancient Egypt, priests plucked every hair from their bodies, including their eyebrows and eyelashes.

3.    More than 8,100 US troops are still listed as missing in action from the Korean War.

AGE…….. That wonderful human factor.

I am getting old. I can feel it. The age spots, the ‘crepe skin’ and larger wrinkles DO NOT BOTHER me. I recognize the fact human bodies do that.  I don’t care to look younger, I wouldn’t mind BEING younger but I refuse to try to hide the fact I HAVE SURVIVED.

I am seeing many obituaries my age and younger. Many the age of our sons…. Do I  Love life?  You  bet.  What do I NOT LIKE about aging? Someone considering me ‘stupid’ because I am a little slower.  Thinking wrinkles indicate dementia.  Assuming I can no longer think for myself.

My reflexes have always been slow.  I was never ‘quick witted’. All my life I could come up with a great ‘retort’ to a snide remark,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, thirty minutes later!  LOL  Times and that haven’t changed. I always admired my youthful friend Buddy. He was always quick witted, seldom was he or friend Joe Carver bested in a battle of wits (or fisticuffs).

Sad to say, in a battle of wits, I seemed to be unarmed! ;-(.

Aging?  Of course, and  I don’t mind it at all. But I don’t want to be like the OLD LADY who was asked if she had any enemies she did not like. She said, “ NO!”

When asked,  “How that could be after 114 years?”

“I out lived the SOBs!”

I tell my sons I never want the  title, “The Oldest man alive!” because you do not hold the title very long.

Anyway, there is a book entitled “Aging is not for Wimps.”  That is very true!

Today I received the sweetest compliment from my wife.  She said, “I don’t have a full collection of your books, I want one of each of them. To display in our home in Florida.”

Within an hour the missing books were ordered.

For you who are seniors, what do you like or dislike the most as your age?

How sweet with Sherry and the books :) I mentioned this before, but its scary when I'm typing reports and people in their early 50s are already in nursing homes with a long list of problems and a longer list of medications. I honestly think technology, although it is great, has actually made us have health problems earlier than our parents and older generations who had to work hard for a living, walk everywhere, be outside exercising, etc. I think our bodies are meant for activity, not just sitting all day in front of a computer screen, etc., like so many young people these days.

Yes, we are survivors. I'm happy I'm the age I am and don't have to go through all those challenges and learning lessons of my youth but that doesn't mean they've stopped. I wouldn't want to be a young person in today's world. I'm thankful for the times I lived. Life was definitely simpler. We didn't have a lot, but what we had was all good.

I complain about my skin aging and sagging but in reality, I'd rather have my health than looks. I'm learning to accept that I'm getting older. I am currently going through a faze of accepting the fact that teenager cloths do not fit like they used to. Neither do bikinis.

I feel younger at the beach.

Funny you should write about this, Jack. A decade or more ago, I was all frantic-like about the Aging Process -- but today I embrace it ... wrinkles, scars and all. That's not to say I'm unaware of the way I'm regarded in the workplace ... even the way I regard THEM and their rap-talk. How's this for a working title? "No place for old women."

Heck, I've not given up on trying to look my best every day, but don't worry about that I can't control. So liberating!

Oh My, you had to ask. I don't mind aging as much as all the aches and pains that have come with it, at least in my case. For the most part I do feel good and do a lot outside in the 3 gardens, yardwork, riding the UTV through our woods and walking the trails. But, the aches after are what I could easily live without. I'd found out that I no longer can care for a baby like I used to. The ol' body isn't having it. I do enjoy life with Bill more than when we were so busy raising 5 kids. It's like we've gotten to know each other all over again and found out we still like each other. That part of aging I absolutely love. I could go on but you get the gist.
love n' hugs from up north where we're back in the hay field helping my brother fill his barn for the winter. Love the smell of fresh cut hay!
