Little known facts:
….. The poverty rate for households that are led by a
married couple is 6.8 percent. For
households that are led by a female single parent, the poverty rate is 37.1 percent.
…. In 2013, women
earned 60 percent of all
bachelor’s degrees that were awarded that year in the United States .
You have heard of my
friend Buddy. He told me of his lunch in the park yesterday. He said, “I was
sitting on a park bench next to a homeless man. I started a conversation
by asking him how he ended up this way. “
He said, "Up
until last week, I still had it all. I had plenty to eat, my clothes were
washed and pressed, I had a roof over my head, I had TV and Internet, and I
went to the gym, the pool, and the library. I was working on my MBA
on-line. I had no bills and no debt. I even had full medical
coverage."
Buddy said, I felt
sorry for him, so I asked, "What happened? Drugs?
Alcohol? Divorce?"
"Oh no, nothing
like that," he said. "No, no. I got out of prison."

I know that is a
sorry tale to start an entry. But a blogger
has to do what a blogger gotta do, WRITE (even if you do modify a joke)
Yesterday was a relaxed
Saturday. Slept late. Messed around with this system trying to get it to speed
up, ha, that is a joke. It takes 3-5
minutes to read an e-mail. I tell my
girl Imma enjoy FAST internet when she retires and settles down. LOL
But the joke
above reminded me of a retirement program for seniors. Get sent to prison and
everything will be paid for you. Full coverage insurance on health and teeth. Even a sex change at gov’t
expense.
No one wants to
go to Prison, but there is a lot of shaded truth there. The gov’t can afford to
keep you up if you do something wrong, but maybe not so well if you do things
right, and play by the rules.
There has been a lot written about the Affordable Medical Care
system we have. I have a friend in California who was paying $500 a month for
full family coverage before the affordable care came in. Now he is cutting corners
to pay $2000 a month. To me that is
about a salary! Of course he does have a
good job, but deducting $24,000 a year for a healthy person is a little
STRETCH!
I’m outta here. I
didn’t meant to go on!

I enjoyed that lead-in, Jack!
Sad, but true. Son knows of someone down on his luck who committed a robbery at gunpoint, just to get 'free' housing and 3 squares.
I sure don't have an answer to this healthcare business, but what you wrote about the 'affordable' act is true. Guess all we can do is pray for sound minds.
the answer to the healthcare problem is to reduce the cost of services rendered by hospitals and doctors. they charge too much, period.
In some of the reports I type there are homeless people that also have mental health issues. They end up in the hospital for a bit when they become unstable because they have made threats against themselves, saying they will harm themselves. I wonder if they just make those threats with nothing behind them, but once a threat is made, certain procedures have to be followed, etc. Gets them "free" room and board for a few days. Thankfully hubby and me have employers that offer "reasonable" healthcare without costing an arm and a leg. We have our separate coverage, I'm not on his, he's not on mine. Retirement will be interesting when we get there.
betty
I have a small salary and I alone pay 550.00 a month and stiil trying to figure out how in the world Im going to pay my recent doctor bills. My insurance is a quarter of my monthy salary. It bites!
I liked the prison joke. I remember hearing a funny story of a lady who lived on a cruise ship. When someone asked her how she does it, she said it was cheaper than a resthome and a lot more to do. Haha

Your story is sad but true. I think most prisoners have it better than I do and they really don't have to work for it either. I don't work outside the home any more, but I did work in order to retire. Fast internet speed has spoiled me. I have to laugh when I think how I started out with the dial up through the telephone line. Still it would be hard to exchange your traveling days for faster internet.
