There ain't a good ONE in the bunch!

Little known facts:
1.    Mailmen in Russia now carry revolvers after a recent decision by the government.
2.    One out of five people in the world (1.1 billion people) live on less than $1 per day.
3.    Quebec City, Canada, has about as much street crime as Disney World.
There is an old joke, “99% of lawyers give the 1% a bad name.”
My favorite attorney is a good guy, even if she is a lady. But the gist of that statement is not lost to me.
The first thing that comes to mind is Politicians.  Surely they aren’t all bad, or weren’t when they were elected. But we have so many in DC who make no sense, we throw them all in the same barrel.

I will be first to admit, there are LEOs (Law Enforcement Officers) who thrive off the ‘authority’ that they have, and over USE it. But I have known some dedicated men who were LEOs.  Twice in my life I have been the victim of power hungry LEOs. BUT I know we need Law Enforcement. As a rule the LEO is just a regular guy who puts in his 8 (+) hours and goes home to his wife and kids. I would say no different that you or I. But I cannot say that. When I went to work as a carpenter, I knew (unless a freak accident) I would be home to Sherry that evening. The LEO probably will too, doesn’t know that.
As a builder I KNEW there were unscrupulous guys out there who would promise the moon, then take the money and run. That is one reason I NEVER TOOK money in advance on a job.
It is true that if you get stiffed by one Mechanic, you must be careful or that will be your opinion of Mechanics. I have two incidents with mechanics that disprove that. 1..Once before we were rich (ha) my Rambler was running rough. The Rambler dealership looked at the engine. They quoted $250 to rebuild the engine. I drove the car to another meck, and he simply tightened three bolts on my intake manifold, charged me nothing and problem was solved.
2..I once worked for a crook at a service station on the interstate. He even cheated me once. BUT Sherry and I were in Florida headed for Key West (again before I was rich) our 68 Chevy lost power. I stopped on the interstate, the service station guy listened to my story and said ‘I can fix it’ How much?”  Don’t worry about it, sit here.” Perplexed I sat. In a few minutes he walked in and said, “You are ready.”  “How much,” I asked again.
“$2.75, it was just a fuel filter clogged, y’all have a good trip.”  The car never gave another problem.

I must stop throwing everyone in the same barrel. There are a lot of good folk in this world, honest!

I got carried away this morning and filed this too soon, I started to delete it, but I will let it stand to a testimony of my 'brain' at this age. It ain't right! LOL

A repairman once told me to reverse the hot and cold water in both bathrooms he would have to take the whole living room wall out. Well I knew that wasn't close to correct but I didn't know exactly how to tell him how to really do it so I let it slide. Never hired him for anything again. In about five minutes my son-in-law had them both changed with a screw driver and a pair of pliers.

We discovered we had aluminum wiring when we purchased our home from a foreclosure. Not having much money to work with, we hired a self employed Electrician to come rewire the house. Cheep. well, he tore out a lot of walls that we later had to fix. The work was sloppy and ended up costing us more to fix his mess that if we would of hired an expensive one. I say "dirty jobs done dirt cheep". Its hard to trust anyone when you been burned.

it is nice to know there are still good guys who won't take advantage.

Each time I become disappointed and disillusioned ... there come these 1%-ers who give us reason to smile. (I call that a "God-wink")

I enjoyed hearing of your experiences!

The guy who built the fence around our pool as well as replaced the two gates we wanted redone didn't take money upfront either, or a deposit whatever. He said he heard of many a company that did it and then took the money and ran so he made it a point not to ask for any deposit, etc. Also didn't collect right away when he finished the job. Came back a few days later and made sure you liked what he did. He has a long waiting list for people wanting his services, so I guess he knew what he was doing :)

Right now since both vehicles are relatively new and still under warranty, we are having servicing done by the dealership and we bought an extended plan that they cover everything. So I'm hopeful they'll do things right when things need to be done.

Yes, you are right we can not judge one because of others. Truthfully, we are not to judge anyone, but it isn't easy when you've had someone treat you wrong. I know I want to trust that someone working on my car is doing it right. There definitely are good people in this world. Thankfully I've known many of them.

I love 317's God-Wink of the 1%ers that make up for the wrong-doers. It's so right tho, and important, that we don't let one bad experience lead to distrust of the rest of the world. It's human of us to feel betrayed and mistrustful but we can at least do our best to be fair, honest, and trustworthy. Another great eye-opener, Jack.
loveya, missya, hugya, kissya from up north where we're finally getting a much needed day of intermittent showers. WooWhoo, we don't have to pull out the waterhose for the gardens. We're getting a God-Wink of our own. :)
