Tires and Tourists

Little known Facts

Apple has more cash than the U.S. Treasury.

The state of Alaska is 429 times larger than the state of Rhode Island ..  But Rhode Island has a significantly larger population than Alaska does.

….      Alaska has a longer coastline than all of the other 49 U.S. states put together.

While getting tires, we ‘went-a-touristing.’

Driving to historic Down town Williamsburg and by the campus of William and Mary College.  We parked in free short term parking, and walked the few blocks of the old business section. Today coffee shops, book stores, restaurant and ice cream shops.

Then past the ticket/Map office and walked the ‘Duke of Gloucester Street’. This was the most interesting area. There are many 'walk about' early settlers. The homes and businesses had active gardens and still some sales of the 1700-1800 shoes and stuff.
My first encounter was with this dude with his quill a writing. I took a moment to explain the smart phone. "Nay, will never catch on, Folks will always appreciate tru penmanship!

                                      Caskets and gardens

The Episcopal church thru the Paw-paw Tree.
Now me? I think I loved this Gate Closer BEST!  But of course not as much as this beauty beside the watermelon below..

                          The Governors house

Tourists above and below, 'Acting residents gong about theit jobs.
                                          Two lady's stop to chat

Soes hanging in the shoemaker's shop window.

Ahhh, that smart phone again. This time Cousin Ralph is calling Sherry to tell her of his new ZERO-Turn lawnmower.
I smiled at the back yard storage.  Not much different than the 21st century! LOL
Leaving down town Williamsburg drove the four miles to see if the coach was ready.  So we paid, and headed home. Sherry following me.

Home and time for Jack to repair the damage he did to TWO storage compartment doors.  I did tell you I damaged the coach when I left the park. Yeah, one turn is tight and I cut too close to a fire ring and  rolled it up and under the coach edge.  OUCH. A bunch of damage.

But Sherry helped me remove the worst door and I did the metal work, and fortunately had all the tools to do the job, and before dark it was back functional. The two door locks that ere ruined ar on order.

Life is good!

Dang right!
Oh Jack, that first picture is a panic! What a cute idea. :)

My parents stopped at Colonial Williamsburg about '63. I remember it being frightfully cold and damp. We stopped for lunch at this charming period restaurant with a big roaring fireplace and heavy pewter dinnerware. 'Still recall the amazing beef stew, but little of the community itself.
I'd love to revisit it someday!

You mentioned Paw paw trees. I never knew there was such a thing. This made me think of a kid song I used to sing, "Picking up pawpaws put 'em in a basket, way down yonder in the pawpaw patch." Well this made me google what a paw paw was. Its a West Virginia fruit from appalcia. For 47 years I thought it was just a cute sing about grandpaws!!

Learned something new. Thanks Jack,
Lisa

Have you and Sherry kept a journal to write of all the places you've been and what you liked about it? I think that would be interesting for your grandkids to read in the far away future. I too never knew there were really Paw Paws. It was just a kid song to me too.

I loved seeing Williamsburg. It's another of those places I've never seen. Also love seeing you and Sherry. Glad you have your home back and everything is in working order once again. Such a nice place to visit. Our ancestors would have a difficult time relating to life today for sure. Guess your home would resemble the covered wagons of yesterday as people traveled across the country. I think they'd like the changes!

We went to Busch Gardens several years ago. We didn't have mutimenthere because we were heading to New York the next day. It was a fun day. We saw Arline Guthrie.

It's always such a pleasure traveling with you and Sherry except I have a hard time keeping up. Sherry is so agile, if I were to stoop down as low as she can, I'd have a time getting back up. Nice of you to share with your fellow writer, the changes in the world. I'm particularly happy that your tires are good to go again. I was so afraid you were going to have a dangerous blow-out on the interstate or some back road out of a service area....Phew, you beat that one! You guys are sure looking great.
love n' hugs from our northern woods to your adventurous places here, there and everywhere.
