Today’s one of a kind:
Some thoughts for today:
I am fortunate, like MOST humans, my old body
just keeps fixing itself. My cuts have always healed fast. I sometimes cut or
bite my finger nails too close, it hurts or bothers me for a time, but quickly
the nail grows back. If I get a small
sore, most times it heals without any ointment, but most times I do apply some.
After one
incision to remove a (skin?) cancer the doctor said, “Just apply Vaseline, it
will heal without much of a scar.” Did he think he was talking to a girl? We boys are proud of scars. Shucks we started
bragging about them as early as 5 or 6 years old! LOL
Most boys (from
my era) cut some girls initials into his arm or leg calf. Not deep enough to hurt, just enough to leave
a scar we hoped. Mine have all faded
away. Of course since we all had pocket
knives we carved those initials into trees also. LOL
(Old men will brag!)
I still have two
small scars on my hand from a snake bite when I was 13 or 14. I bragged about
that for weeks. (I DID NOT REALIZE HOW CLOSE THE BITE WAS TO BEING SERIOUS) BUT last year learned something, when I was bit by a snake that got the
venom into my blood stream I realized how bad a snake bite was. Let me tell
you I hurt much more from a small Copperhead bite than of the bull dog bites and tears
I received later.
I was
disappointed, I have only one scar to show for that attack and it is hid by my
beard. The nurse that sewed up the wrist said this will save a big scar, she used 3 stitches and some glue (or
something) The gash was 3” long and I don’t even have a scar to show for it. Shucks NO PROOF SCAR to brag about. ;-)
Old men are
no different than when they were 14 yrs old. We like to brag about the terrible
things we have survived. I was telling Bill Muse once about my major operation
(Vasectomy) and dog attack, he came back with: ”Shoot Jack, I have had 2 heart
attacks, 4 heart operations a stroke and a broken leg.” .....I shut up.
Some Old men are
smart alecks!

The deepest scars come from a broken heart.
(I can't remember who first said this - probably me).
God bless.
I would wear my Scars like Medals, Now I look at my arms and see lots of white spots from old injuries where the skin lost its pigment. Now I hope there is no more Scars, The worst Scars are the Ones on My Heart from Lost Loves, Friends and Family ! Sending down Love and Prayers from the Crazy Weather Place, Gary and Anna Mae !
Hey you should have had a snake skin wallet to go with the tiny scar. Merry Christmas silly boy and Sherry. xoxo, Susie
Great title, Jack!
But ya, I know someone just like those old men you describe. Intimately, lol.
Scars tell stories, like Scouts' merit badges. And some, like Victor said, aren't so visible but are a testament to persistence. That or good luck.
The wounds heal, but scars never do.
Sorry not to have included the lyrics. I have responded to your comment and put the lyrics there.
God bless.
I am like you. My wounds heal quickly. I have a few scars and not bothered by them. They all tell a story sort of like a tattoo.
Off to work.

I do remember my boys bragging about their scars. Trying to see who had the most. They were proud of them. And I agree the the broken heart has the biggest scars and some never do heal. Lets try not to get any more scars before the new year. Stay safe and healthy there !
