Photo of the day: This was our 1995 37' Overland, diesel. We drove this one to the Yukon and Alaska.
We
travel and are gone a lot. Like MA
( https://goodmorningsmiles.blogspot.com/)
we started off using a tent because we could be where many folks
vacationed, but much cheaper. Cheap wasn’t the only reason, we actually enjoyed
being close to nature and meeting good people.
When we first
traveled, we called ‘family’ from a pay phone every week to see what we have
missed. Funny looking back, we thought
nothing about that because pay phones were our line home.
For a
short time we had that big bag phone, I used in business and we had it on the
road, but the coverage was not great.
Later when
we decided to travel FULL TIME, we stored all our household possessions, rented
our homes and hit the road. We continued that for over 20 years. Traveling the
50 states, a big part of Canada. From San Diego to Nova Scotia and Key West, FL
to Chicken, Alaska.
We have
met very GOOD people and very few rude ones.
We now
have Verizon cell phones, their coverage is the best we can find for the US and
Canada. YES, we are on the internet most
of the time. At first we had a way to hook the PC to the net via cell
phone. Now we have what you would call a
traveling HOT SPOT named Orbic, produced by Verizon. It keeps us in contact with the internet over
90 percent of the areas we travel in.
However like cell phones it does have dead spots where it loses contact. IT IS NOT HIGH SPEED INTERNET BY ANY
REASONING.
WE do have problems
in areas like northern Maine where it is much less populated, therefore less
cell towers. But all in all we can be in
contact with the family pretty much 24/7.
We do
not roam as much as we did.

Thank you, Jack, for explaining how you keep in contact via the Internet. What a wonderful invention it is which has enabled us all to communicate so easily over great distances.
God bless.
We switched to version for the same reason. It has the best and reliable service. My son started it because of his daughter who has epilepsy and may need medical attention wherever they go. He put me on his family plan and I'm still on it. I've never had many problems with dead zones, but know those who do so.
I've toyed with the idea of changing cell phone providers, but stick to Verizon for their reliability. We rarely venture far, but my son had a Hot Spot added to theirs. Not so sure how that works -- I'm technically illiterate -- but mighty thankful for modern technology!
We have Version and iPhones.
I remember the bag phones. My dad had one and all my friends thought is was the coolest thing.
Now we can talk to each other through a watch!
Just like Buck Rogers.

Great to hear about your positive encounters and reliable connectivity with Verizon. It's always a relief to stay connected, especially with family. Dead spots in less populated areas are common, but it's good to know you're managing well.
