So we did it, well not all, we did hike 1850+ miles Of the Appalachian Trail

***** BREAKING NEWS  *****
Great Grand Son Jude has discovered America. Jude, Mamma Jennifer and Daddy Stephen are all doing well and Jude is healthy!
Now today’s post:
This is Sherry in the Smokies, just past New Found Gap. The hike thru the Smokies is only a hundred miles, we spent about 12 days doing it.

This was a place just to sit and enjoy the beauty. Most of the other folk had just walked up from New Found Gap.  The Gap is between Cherokee, NC and Gatlinburg, TN

Me in Tennessee.

This was one of the most disappointing stops. We were in the clouds at Mchaffey Knob (?) supposed to be the best view on the trail.

Sherry at a creek in Virginia. Below is out packs and STUFF before we started.

Shery carried 35 pounds and I carried about 50.  Too much, but we never figured how to cut it down by much.
WE only hiked about 7 to 8 miles a day. We would be on the trail by 8:30 and quit around 3PM.  WE prepared a fire 9 out of 10 nites and shared it with hikers who were too tired to gather wood. The young hikers would regularly do 13-20 miles a day. The most we did in one day was 17 miles, toooo  much for us.
Thanks for dropping by.

PS:
WE met some amazing folk on the trail.

Beautiful country!

Congrats on the great-grandson!

Those packs sound heavy to me. It's one thing to hike 8 miles, but quite another to hike 8 miles with a 35 or 50 lb. pack. I think it's great that you shared your campfires.

Congratulations on the great grandson!! That is some beautiful country you two hiked through. Even the one in the clouds made a neat picture. Shirl and I aren't having much luck with the snow dancing this year. Hope you are warm. Love from up here, Sheila

You and Sherry showed other hikers how to do it!
The two of you are a couple of real troopers!

Congrats to all on the arrival of Jude!! So glad to hear he is healthy and all are doing well!

I think you guys were wise when you hiked the trail to keep it at the short distances you did daily. That seven miles seemed manageable and gave you guys time to rest up before the next day's hike! That 17 miles you did that one day does sound like it could have been exhuasting!
