From Gitmo to Life on the road

Our brief History continued:
We left Gitmo and moved to Albany, Ga. Where I taught Naval Intelligence processing. Some folks say that is a contradiction of terms, Naval Intelligence. The School moved us to Key West, FL. Then we moved to Charlotte, NC then Washington, DC, then back to Charlotte, NC.
In Charlotte I worked for the Marriott as a maintenance man for a month. I bought a roach coach and we ran it for a couple years. Then the JEWEL of my life came up with a brilliant idea.

On one of our evening walks Sherry asked if I could build us a house and get us out from under the house payment. Without any hesitation I said, “ Sure.”
I built a couple houses, studying all the time for my General Contractor’s license. Finally took and passed the test and found the job I really loved, that was Building. Along with building for other folks I built us the ‘Final house’. We loved it, a two bedroom house, with my office, single car garage out back and double up front and an indoor heated swimming pool. This was the ultimate. No selling this one, no more moving. We moved only seven times since GTMO some kind of record for us.
HOWEVER IN 5 years, we started thinking of retiring and travel. You can’t leave a house with the pool without a caretaker. That would be dangerous. SO, let’s build our ‘really’ final house. The Air Port Authority was buying my sister Kat’s house and they were going to have to move. They also planned to travel a lot. Why not a couple condos? So we built two large condos, with spots for the RV’s, this was the real final, and sold the other ‘final house’.

After a few years we sublet the condo, moved into the motor home full time and hit the road. We have been happy ever since. Now it is a constant move every few weeks, suits me just fine. It works for us; we have never needed or required separate vacations, etc. We got enough separations in the military and with me chasing my wild ideas and dreams. I do what I can to make up for the times I left her alone. I don’t mind cooking, washing dishes, making beds, defrosting the refrigerator. I’m still not much on washing clothes in our little washer here, but she seems to handle it well. She will trust me with some things, but not all, I want to put too much in a load.
This is definitely not a life for everyone, but we love it.

I think that life is great for you two but I can't imagine giving up all my "stuff" and I just don't think I would be happy with it in storage.

You and Sherry can sing the song "This World
Is Not My Home I am Just Passing Through. or
"On The Road Again". You know me and travel
I just loved staying put. I guess I traveled
enough in my early life, but not as much as you
and Sherry...Hope you are having fun on your
vacation.

I admire them so much for having the courage to follow their dream It would not be for me because I want to stay in one place.
