      Early Colorado Springs Appears you are driving right into the Rockies!


 Colorado to me is a strange state. Don’t get me wrong, it is interesting and VERY beautiful. But seeing Marijuana advertised openly bothers a dude who has always tried to obey the law. I have nothing against Marijuana any more than Jack Daniels, except all my adult life MJ has been a BIG illegal no-no.  It is still against Federal LAW. That is what makes it strange! Especially when you see the following ads:

Nature’s beauty always sticks out to me. I had heard about the ‘Garden Of The Gods’ near Colorado Springs. It was advertised as a ‘must see’. Like much of the mid-west and west there are some beautiful wind and water carvings. I am always amazed at ‘balanced rocks’. Tons of rock, stone or dirt balanced on a small point. Such as the entrance to the Garden.

 Colorado knows beer and has more microbreweries per capita than any other state. I can remember when guys would pay crewmen on cargo planes to bring them a case of Coors. It was only sold in Colorado (It has sorta grown since then!).

The United States federal government owns more than 1/3 of the land in Colorado.

Leadville is the highest incorporated city in the United States at 10,430 feet elevation. Because there was lots of "silver" named towns at the time, the founding fathers suggested Leadville.

Pueblo is the only city in America with four living recipients of the Medal of Honor.

Denver has the largest city park system in the nation with 205 parks in City limits and 20,000 Acres of parks in the nearby mountains.

Dove Creek is the "Pinto Bean" capital of the world.

The World's First Rodeo was held on July 4th, 1869 in Deer Trail.

Rocky Ford has been dubbed the "melon capital of the world."

The Yampa River below the northwest town of Craig holds northern pike in the 20-pound range, while the Roaring Fork and Frying Pan rivers are prime spots for trout fishing.

Colorado has the highest mean altitude of all the states.
