Food….

I have lost a few pounds while at our home base. I have been working as many hours a day as I can, and it is helping me lose. I am down about 8 pounds. My goal was/is 15 before we head South. Also if I have to wear a suit to the wedding, it will fit.  LOL.

You know how it is, when you are trying to cut back you think of good foods. One of my favorite meals is ‘Corn bread and milk’.  The milk can be sweet or buttermilk.  Now I was raised to call milk that was not butter milk ‘sweet milk’. I know that is not a proper name,  What do you call it? Pasteurized, or white milk?  I guess most folks just say milk, right?

Anyway I like the milk cold and the bread warm. I also love to cut up an onion in mine.  I think someone coined the word, ‘comfort food’ just for corn bread and milk.

Anyway that was on my mind. I will cut this short and read a few blogs then find us a hot water heater, this one started leaking, sooooo it must be changed.

Thanks to everyone for your thoughts and condolences on the loss of a beautiful flower.  Also thanks for the Birthday wishes for Luke our new YOUNG man.

AND thanks for reading the Ships log, we have now passed the 325, 000 views, mark.

Nite Shipslog

PS:

Sorry for being so late in posting and reading your blogs. IT SEEMS there is not enough hours in the day for a handy man.  LOL

Congratulations on losing some weight. You have been working hard
and accomplished many projects. Now it is time to sit back and rest. I know you enjoy doing projects. I think you create things to do.

About milk now it is whole milk, 2%, skim and many flavors. I guess we called it Sweet Milk to distinguished from buttermilk.. We have come a long way.

Having been raised in Texas, «Louis» also calls it 'sweet milk'!

Why is buttermilk called 'buttermilk' - and why is it now cultured to add the slight sourness? Here's the story:
Butter was once churned from sour cream, thus the milk left from the churning was also sour, thus 'buttermilk'. Then in the U.S., we quit churning butter from sour cream and switched to sweet cream - but we still wanted buttermilk. So the dairies added a culture to sour the milk to make buttermilk. In Europe, butter is still typically made from sour cream.

Yes, that is a 1960 Plymouth Valiant, powered by Chrysler's famous "slant six".

Oh, and that "One Way" sign would be a good one for the Friday Funnies "One Had One Job" section...

That's great with the weight loss, Jack; I'm sure I found those eight pounds, LOL :)

I know you've talked about that "comfort food" of yours with the corn bread and milk. It does sound good (without the onions here, LOL). Never had the two of them together, but I bet it is mighty tasty.

Its one thing or another, isn't it with the water heater? Good you are a "Jack" of all trades :)

I'm so proud of you!
Good on you! (off you, actually...weight, that is.)
And...I call it sweet milk, too.
I smile.

Nice to be able to get in your suit. You are right... never enough hours in a day.

Congrats to you on the weight loss and for giving up your comfort food. I do love mine! More activity doing all that work does make a difference too. Usually I'll lose about 10 in the summertime just from eating different and working outside in the yard. But not this year. I think I'm pretty much the same. I'm not doing as much as I used to and I haven't given up on my comfort food either. The clothes all still fit so I'm a happy camper. Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Ironically, I also lost 8 lbs! I did a great deal of walking while in Boston, Maine and New Hampshire.

I'm a little behind with my emails as I recently returned home from my trip to Boston. I had a blast with my kids and family and friends.

Loved, loved the cool temps with no humidity like Florida.

I also had a house guest as my niece returned home with me for 10 days so I have not been on my computer much.

I no longer drink cow's milk. I do drink Almond Milk instead. I no longer eat dairy products.

Hugs to my favorite couple!

I always called it sweet milk. I had a bowl of it last night with a tomato cut up in it. A big hand to you on the weight loss. I need to do that also. No wedding to attend though.

Congrats on the weight loss. Wish that was me. Milk is all that is in my vocabulary. I can not stand the taste of buttermilk. My kids think I am nuts. I have been lost in computer land forever. I can not send an e-mail with the address neb.rr.com. I have been looking for an e-mail that would accept it and have not found it yet. I have G-mail which I have not tried but am going to.

Congrats on losing some weight! Whose getting married that you are going SOUTH for? lol

To me milk is milk and buttermilk is buttermilk.

I eat cornbread, black eyed peas, and onions! Comfort food!
