I talk too loud……

Being deaf, I can hear a little with the hearing aids. Mostly is it one on one and in a quiet setting. In crowds I seldom can carry on a conversation, unless I start it and then I can ‘sometimes’ make a couple retorts. Mostly my sweetie has to interpret for me, and sometimes it the noise level is high enough, I can’t understand her.

Some of you will remember when Sherry fell on some unattached steps and broke her arm. After a few days we were in a restaurant, I was telling my good friend Ed, that there were benefits to this injury. I proceeded to explain that now my girl could not put on her bra, and I had to help and explained in detail how I helped.  NOT KNOWING THAT I WAS TELLING EVERYONE IN THE BUILDING.  But I did learn when everyone started laughing. T’was not that funny to my girl.

Church is bad also, I whisper loud enough for the pastor to look back where I sit. We used to shout a little in our church, I think he thinks Imma bout to start. LOL.

I am trying to do better, it doesn’t sound too loud to me. Embarrassed smile.

I used to assist in the music in church in a band. I played the trumpet.  After church one evening I asked the organist what song she played last. When she told me, I said, “That’s not what I played!” That was early on when my hearing was starting to go. I put the trumpet down right there. I learned someone else claimed it and played it later. I didn’t even bring it home.

This is not a pity party, but if someone you know is hard of hearing, try to look at them when you speak and do not turn away. Actually I am at the child stage again where a noun or verb is good without all the adjectives, conjunctions and adverbs. If I am driving I am down to one word conversations. Not, “It looks like you should stop, that truck is in your lane.”  I prefer “STOP!”  I get it.  Oh yes, and NO is too close to GO, at an intersection!

Thanks for coming by the log.

PS:

If you are using the four letter word “WHAT” too much, you might need some hearing aids. For the first ones I suggest the cheap ones. The ones for $19 – $30. I bought a good one for 75¢ at a yard sale still in the original box.

PS2:

Or if you are telling a restaurant family secrets, that might be a hint.  LOL

Mme la Vache is always telling «Louis» he talks too loud... He had the same problem all through school...No megaphone needed for «Louis»!

That Dodge concept car was a bit strange looking...no wonder it didn't make it into production! (Though you can see hints of it in the '70s Dodge Ram Vans...)

«Louis» is HAPPY to see you are back to blogging!

Do you ever have ear wax taken out and if you do does it help any? Seems John's hearing has just worsened again lately and I'm wondering if it is ear wax. Surprisingly as hard of hearing as he is he doesn't talk loud like most people do with a hearing problem. I didn't notice that you talked loud when you were here.

My hubby is hard of hearing so I can understand where you're coming from.

My husband refuses hearing aides. He takes his hand and cups it around his ear to catch my words! lol

You sound like my grandson with the simple nouns and verbs - that's enough grammar for him too!

I just remember when someone wanted
you to speak ad a meeting. You said
just because I can't hear doesn't
mean I can't talk. All these kids
listening to this loud music is
going to loose their hearing, but
they want listen. Remember we said
Mother's hearing was so good she
could hear a pin drop on carpet.

We have the same problem here, I think Grover's might be a little worst then mine. I do look at peoples mouth when they're talking to me so I can understand them better. I know at times I've said the wrong things because I didn't understand what was said. Lol Take care. Jean

Hearing is one of those senses we take for granted until we don't have it as sharply as we once did in our youth. I too wonder how the younger generation will fare in their hearing as they age with their ear buds in their ears and their music louder than it should be. I guess one can consider getting into the hearing aid business as one that might be profitable before long. I do know both in-laws struggled with hearing and had hearing aids, the interesting thing was I think they had selective hearing, they could hear what they wanted just fine, but if it was something they didn't want to hear, you'd have to repeat it several times and then it was iffy if they acknowledged understanding :)

You are blessed to have Sherry interpret for you. Loosing your hearing would make you more aware of what is going on though. I have noticed that my hearing is not as good as it used to be and have to listen carefully sometimes. Other times I wish I hadn't heard what I did hear. It's a chilly morning here and it's feeling like fall. Hope you all have a terrific Tuesday!

This reminds me of the short time that Dad (Slim) had hearing aids. Mom and I both decided that WE didn't like him having them because he COULD hear. He could be on the opposite end of the house and hear us talking about him.
This is not the reason though that he got rid of the hearing aids, it was because the insurance wouldn't cover them and his work said that his hearing wasn't bad enough for them to sign off on it for the insurance. We all disagreed with their decision because anyone who has met Dad knows that you can be standing right beside him and half the time he won't hear you. I really wish he could have his hearing back or at least be covered for hearing aids, because I know he misses out on a lot.
Stay sweet and it's good to have you back blogging again!
