Boy this was a busy day on the farm. Monday is our day at Hardees with all the old folk. I left Sherry there (she gets to visit with her brother and his family and many of her old boy friends) while I went to shop in a new surplus store. New to me that is.
Something in me likes junk. The one occupation I always wanted was to be the owner of a junk yard. I could easily have been Sanford. This place is great. They have millions of pieces of junk. Surplus stuff, over stocked stuff, Isles you have to navigate down a path, etc. Car parts, tools, plumbing stuff, electrical stuff, and electronics stuff. Nuts and bolts, Nails and cable. They have it all. I found some galvanized pipe to make a muffler for the Gravely Mower and some metal drawers (military surplus) to sort some of Mark’s junk in. I spent part of the day building shelves to hold the drawers.
Today’s surprise. Mark calls Sherry (He is out on a job forty miles away). “Hey mom, I just sold the Nisson four wheel drive SUV in the middle of the field. A guy is on his way to pick it up. I was asking $1000 but he will give you $1200. I have had so many calls he offered more. On second thought let him have it for $1100 it needs a battery.”
Man comes, his name is Juan. I did not catch the last name. He is driving an Escalade pulling a tow dolly. Car won’t start. Mark tells his mom to tell me to use the back hoe to push the Nissan up on the dolly. I have never driven his Back Hoe. (I am picturing the ATV ride the other day). Gary and the rest of you don’t need another laugh. Sucker fired up first turn, it is a diesel. I found the lever to raise the buckets. Found a slow gear and she moved along ‘sweetly’ as my grandson would say. I did good. Juan found one of Marks trailer tires lying in the field for shock protection and we pushed it up on the dolly. We had to remove the drive shaft before it would move. I was glad to see Juan drive off the property with HIS CAR!
Now it was back to sorting STUFF.
Thanks for coming by the log.

I've been in places like that with Mel. That wasn't our Juan, was it? He has lots of old trucks and trailer houses on his little corner of land.Sounds like you and Sherry both had a good time.
so did you get a commission for helping Juan move out Mark's car?? seems like there should have been something for your sweat
its fun to look at other people's junk as long as it doesn't make it to my house :)
betty
Sounds like you had a full day, junk and all. You did good with the back hoe. At least you went forwards, wonder why they call it back hoe, because you can move things backwards with it too? I like old Maxine LOL. Helen
Joe loves to go to junk shops. He can always find something. I always hope he doesn't. Anyone for cake? our house is overflowing with cake. Joe Spunky and I had our own celebration, once I made up my mind that 80 was not so bad. Thank you for the birthday wishes and it was quite an accomplishment making it to 80. Now no more for a very long time.
You on a back hoe and me afraid to get on the
riding lawn mower. Glad Juan got one more car
gone. If I get comfortable on the riding mower
maybe I will ride it over to see you & Sherry.
One problem getting across Central. Happy
motoring on construction equipment.

Sounds like that place would be a great place to spend a few hours looking for treasure!!!!!!!!
Hopefully if I can get back on my feet we will plan on leaving Tuesday for Florida and some sunshine, spent Sunday in Hospital, have to see surgeon tomorrow to see whats going on!!!
I was so involved in trying to learn how to add pictures to my blog that somehow I missed this entry.
Gary's passion has always been junk. He would have loved to owned his own junkyard when he was younger. I think that's a business he could have made profitable but I'm sure the powers that be are putting stricter limitations on junkyard owners now. If they had their way there wouldn't be any junyards and I'm sure it will eventually come to that. The Cash for Clunkers in my opinion was nothing but a waste.
I'm glad Mark was able to sell his vehicle and got more than his asking price. I sure hope it was out of his name before Jaun took off with it.
And I'm really glad you had no problems operating the backhoe. Yeah, I know we shouldn't have laughed about your adventures on the ATV but the way you told it made it funny, it sure wouldn't have been funny if you'd gotten hurt. Be careful playing with those boy toys, they're dangerous!
Love ya'll
Debbie
