I am thankful this is a Christian nation no matter what the President or anyone else says. This country has many religions in it, but it was founded on the Ten Commandments, and the teachings of Jesus. Now you can get mad if you want to, but there is nothing wrong with believing in peace and love. There is nothing wrong with basing our laws on the Ten Commandments, because they make good moral sense.
I guess what got my dander up was buying stamps a couple days ago. The lady gave me a book of ‘Holiday Stamps’. Why in under the sun does the post office have to be ‘Politically correct’? Folks are going to buy stamps no matter what. And you have the choice in many styles. You do not have a choice of where you mail a letter, it must be the USPS. It is Christmas, for heaven’s sake. IT has been Christmas for many hundreds of years, why is it all of a sudden just a hoiday?
Now, I love a good Thanksgiving meal. I eat too much but I love it. I am a one pot man. I can do soup, some good soup, a one dish meal and it is done on time. Now a meal with three to five courses I cannot handle. Nothing is ready at the right time, or I burn something while working with something else. Sherry and some of you cooks can cook three or four courses and they will be done together. That amazes me. Our Granddaughter Sherece (Reececup) can do the same thing. Maybe she inherited the ability.
But this week is sort of a change. We have not had Thanksgiving with family for many many years. Sherry is cooking the main courses, and Reececup is doing the desserts. Jack is bringing the Tea. Mark bought a BIG turkey and ham. Sherry is putting it together. One problem is some of the family will be eating two Thanksgiving meals, so maybe ours will be real late.
I have never been able to make Gravy like Sherry or mama. I can make a white sauce simply enough, but to burn bacon grease and flour and add milk and stir it to make a smooth grave, forget it. Sherry used to make great gravy from scratch but She has found the ‘gravy in a pouch’ now and it is pretty good. Called ‘peppered gravy’ and it is a just add milk or water thing. It makes good biscuits and gravy.
And Yep, the ’48 in the last entry looks exactly like mine.
Thanks for coming by the log.

Humor from Georgia:
The owner of a golf course in Georgia was confused about paying an invoice, so he decided to ask his secretary for some mathematical help. He called her into his office and said, "You graduated from the University of Georgia and I need some help.. If I were to give you $20,000, minus 14%, how much would you take off?"
The secretary thought a moment, and then replied, "Everything but my earrings."
He had to ask!
PS2: We had a great big bon fire tonight.

I wholeheartedly agree there is nothing wrong with basing our laws on The Ten Commandments.
sounds like it will be a wonderful Thanksgiving day with family and, as always, too much food :)
betty
Everyone should base their lives by the Ten Commandments. Then things would run smoothly. Not cooking a big meal here, No one will be coming. Son will be working and daughter is not in any shape to drive this far and furthermore I can't stand on my feet long enough to cook a big meal. Ken will just go out and get us a plate. How far is it from here to your place? LOL. Helen
Hi Jack and Sherry! Happy Thanksgiving week! Both my guys are nearly deaf now, and yeah...it takes getting used to. It's hard to teach them. With Winston, I can still use hand signals because he still has some vision. But with Spencer, it's a series of taps and me blowing in his direction to get him to come to me. I've learned a lot of tricks! Try the blowing with MJ, I'll bet he responds and comes towards you! Take care! :)
I agree with everything you said, Jack. Now don't pass out with surprise. I think I could handle a big thanksgiving meal as far as cooking even in this little house, but when Alan passed away Dec. 21, 1992 I said I would never have Thanksgiving or Christmas again so the kids finally took over. If I had to do it at my age now, I am not sure how it would taste but I would give it a try, now. Time was what I needed when I made that statement but now it is still time. I need to get younger. Don't see that happening. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
After reading this I had to go look at the stamps I bought at the store over the weekend, they were still in my purse and I hadn't looked at them. Mine are called "Winter Holidays" and they're ugly, I can't even figure out what one picture is on some of the stamps it kinda looks like a robot, I guess it's supposed to be a marching soldier or something.
It's a lot of hard and time consuming work to prepare a nice meal for a family gathering. Sherry's like me, she grew up in a large family and got lots of practice cooking in the kitchen so it just comes naturally to us on how to time things just right and fixing dishes that can be prepared ahead of time like desserts does help lighten the load on the day of the meal.
Ya can't beat biscuits & milk gravy. Gary doesn't like the gravy in a pouch, he'd rather have it homemade and he can actually make better tasting gravy than I can.
Love & Hugs
Debbie
A profound entry of yours!
Please have you all a wonderful Wednesday.
You guys sure worked hard getting things organized. I got my ingredients ready to start
cooking tomorrow. My kitchen was a disaster
area after trying to make some creme-de-menthe
brownies. I now call them bo boes. Maybe I will
try to cook another batch. Happy Thanksgiving.
