My mental problems.

The HARD questions, for me at least.
Do you agree with giving out condoms or ‘the pill’ in school? NO!
But statistics show that most teens are active sexually, do you want your grand daughter to get pregnant and not be able to finish school or have a baby to take care or for mama or grandma to take care of. NO! So what I want is my grand daughter or daughter or niece to not have sex! Can I stop that? NO! So Jack what is the answer. I say lock ‘em up every hour they are not in school! (YEAH RIGHT!) And where is the boy in all this? The wonderful little daddy? Does his parents suffer like the girls, of course not. So am I for contraceptives given out at school? Reluctantly I guess I am for it. Boy does that hurt to say.)
Somehow when I say that I feel like I am saying hey, “Hey buddy, here is a condom, take my car and use the back seat!!” Some questions have no black & white answers. Some question have no good answer.

Now do we shoot all drug dealers? Yeah Man, first thing in the morning. (But the law just picked up your grandson dealing a little pot at school.) WEEELL, that is different, he just got in with the wrong crowd. It was peer pressure, etc. Answers are easy as long as our family and friends are not involved.
Is California going to pass a law to make POT legal? Is that a good idea? NO, NOT ONLY NO, BUT HECK NO! Was prohibition any good? It made millionaires out of crooks. Oh well, This is another problem. Should a young man or woman spend time in jail for smoking pot? No, there should be another way to work this out. Isn’t there? We have brilliant folks in this world, and todate no one has came up with a very wise way to handle the modern vices. No we cannot just shoot them and we cannot just let everyone run wild, can we?

To me it is confusing. I have never smoked pot or done cocaine, but I still have an opinion, I think, I just do not know what it is????

I quit, I have confused myself enough!!

What an entry.
Over here in Germany students learn about "Babies and alike" already in fourth grade. Went with me first girl friend together to the doc to get the pill, after we talked all (yes, me leaving a short while after ;)
The question about the dealer...well, having lived right next to one, whith the whole block knowing, yet doing nothing as they were afraid and my wife did also forbid me calling the police, hmmm, a really difficult one.

Wishing you all a nice and peaceful Tuesday.

Oh wow you opened up a can of worms with this one. Now I'm confused and I don't know what I think. I used to think. I have always mouthed off and said hang the drug dealers on the court house steps. Now you made me think where do you draw the line? Who are drug dealers? Oh my gosh!

There's a comfortable differne between wholesale drug smuggling and a kid (or old journalist like me)smoking a joint on the corner. The penalties should begin with a slap on the wrist and become incrementally higher for the the career smuggler.

As for condoms for youngsters, you know that sooner or later everyone's going to have a need for them. I rather be safe than sorry.

I had an an opinion once myself, Jack, but I'll be damned if I can find it.

a lot of people here in California think that pot initiative is going to pass; should be interesting; not sure how it is going to be inforced, etc (sadly son is excited about this). condoms given out in school NO, referral to Planned Parenthood (hate that place) perhaps as an alternative maybe. But the bottom line is parents need to take back raising their kids and not expecting the school or church to do it. Hard things to think about tonight

Hi Jack and Sherry...wow...like Paula said..you really opened a big can of worms here...but you didn't say anything more than most parents think about these days...it ranks up there with women having more babies so they can get more welfare...yes...that happens too...and as for the pot dealers...a lie is a lie...a pot dealer is a pot dealer...there is nothing said about the size of the dealer..little bit...big man on campus...they are ALL dealers!!!! as for legalizing pot...well I think I think it is a good thing...the law then will have more weapons to use legally...in the courts etc..(but still mulling that over LOL)...and no I don't think condoms handed out will deter the kids...maybe make it more convenient LOLOL!!! sheesh Jack...when you find the answers be sure we all get them too...right now...I think we are all in the same wobbly boat!!! to be or not to be...the ageless question!!!! love and hugs from beautiful Kentucky...Ora and the Man

My belief is that as long as a person is not harming themselves or others, let them be free to do as they please.

I think that sex education should really be a personal thing you talk with your children about, at home. :) And then you can personally teach them about birth control. :)

Your post made me smile on several occasions. :) :)

Phew, now this entry is a mouthful. As if kids and that damned peer pressure weren't enough for a grandparent or parent to worry about. I guess it's all in the Lords hands but, Man, tough calls.
Condoms, pills, in school?...its a parents job to teach and decide. Teach in school, condoning starts at home.
Drugs, damn....in court as I write this is the mother of one of my GrandLoves, probably just getting her fingers slapped for driving under controlled substance use, and having enough with her to consider her a dealer. I say 'put her in jail and throw away the key.' but, her daddy got away with it so I suppose our system will give her a free ride too. Am I pissed? Yes. On the other hand, I don't want my grandson to be hurt through all of this nonsense. She obviously doesn't care about him or she would never have started in the first place. To be honest, I pray he ends up under my son's care. Isn't it a shame that our courts favor the mothers, no matter what they are into. Poor little boy.
Sorry, but you asked and I needed to vent.

I have to agree with you in this day and age. None of my kids were given that choice. School did not talk about it. I talked to my daughter and their dad talked to the boys. But, I do not ask yet to this day but I bet they all had their fling with sex in high school. As for drugs and never forget drugs include alcohol, I know my oldest son who passed away at age 42 used drugs in the Navy. Once discharged it stopped. One son extremely addicted to alcohol but one ended that long ago, the other son in TX> I never hear from him except through his kids. I hate alcohol and drugs. The alcohol has played havoc in my family so I can truly say I despise alcohol. Should Maryjane be legalized, no. The people that want it will get it any way. Wow Jack, what an entry. I also despise texting on these fancy phones while driving.

JACK,
PRESENT CONDITIONS CERTAINLY CAUSE THINKING PEOPLE TO THINK.
TEENAGE PREGNANCE HAS BEEN A PROBLEM AS FAR BACK AS MY MEMORY GOES.
MY SMALL HOMETOWN DURING THE SCHOOL YEARS OF MINE, HAD THE SEX PROBLEM.
I HAD EARS THOUGH NO ACTION BECAUSE OF EXTREME BASHFULNESS. ALMOST UNHEARD OF NOW.

BEING BASHFUL DID NOT PREVENT OTHER MISTAKES AS YEARS PASSED. MISTAKES THAT WERE VIEWED AS WORSE THAN GETTING A GIRL 'IN TROUBLE'.
WILL NOT GO INTO DETAIL, JUST LET YOU GUESS.

SO WHAT IS THE ANSWER ? AGE OLD QUESTION.
I SUGGEST MOTHERS AND DADS TALKING TO YOUNG CHILDREN WITH COMPLETE TRUTH IN AN EDUCATIONAL WAY.
EASY FOR A PARENT TO 'PUT IT OFF'. CHILDREN ARE NATURALLY CURIOUS.
NO DADDY ANYWHERE IN SIGHT ? THE YOUNG MAMA IGNORANTLY ALLOWING NATURE TO TAKE IT'S COURSE.

TO COMPLICATE THINGS IN THIS DAY OF EXPLICIT PORNOGRAPHY, THE VERY YOUNG ARE SOMETIMES EXPOSED TO SEX SCENES IN HOMES OF TRUSTED FRIENDS OR 'BABYSITTERS' AT HOME.
DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. WE ARE FAILING WHEN WE DO NOT PURSUE TEACHING THE 'NEW TESTAMENT' TO THE YOUNG AT HOME AS WELL AS AT SUNDAY SCHOOLS.

LET'S ADMIT IT, WE COULD ALL HAVE DID BETTER. GOD IS A FORGIVING GOD. WORSHIP HIM. SOMEDAY, PERHAPS SOON WILL BE THE SECOND COMING OF JESUS CHRIST AS TOLD IN OUR 'NEW TESTAMENT'. I PRAY WE PREPARE FOR IT. sam

just want to says that its not that much to be worried about in my family because we are still following the rules of our old generations that virginity are much important before getting married, you won't believed jack how old i am when i have first know the word sex,its funny thing but some of us still do care about it though our young generations now are exposed to so much pornography but the duty of the parents to educate their children on how to have a good and safe sex life "ON A RIGHT TIME" are one of the parents big responsibility to the kids...schools as well added curriculum from the 4rt grade to college the family planning subjects in order for the students learn and understand the pros and cons of having a early family,in my country we usually take care of our girls from thee day she learn to walk to the day she will reach her 18 though some of the young ones now tried to change everything and i blamed the media and all electronic devices and all the new technologies affecting our young generations...if i were a mother i will still INSTALL our old ways to my kids how i learned from my mom the sacredness of ones virginity before you give to the one you love, less trouble and no need to be ready for that small rubber....hope you get something from here.takecare

God did not give the responsibility of raising children to the government. God did not give the responsibility of raising children to the schools. God did not even give the responsibility of raising children to the church. God gave children to and man and his wife. They have the responsibility to nurture and admonish any children born of that union in the way they should go. Don't mis-understand - I'm with you in the struggle when we ask whether we want them to have "safe sex" or get pregnant. You have raised a very difficult question but I am for abstinence until marriage. That is my preference. However...if I speak the truth - "I'd rather be safe than sorry."

The question I had to ask myself was, "Would I rather find out my daughter used a condom, or find out that she didn't?" She knows where to find them in the house.

HIV is a public health issue, not a morality issue. Condoms should be available to everyone. I'm not sure school is the place to hand them out, but I don't know of a better alternative.
