Junk & neat stuff everybody has!

Do you have a collection of ball point pens? We do. Many of them get thrown away once they are tried and no longer write. Sometime I will try running hot water over the tips trying to see it that will loosen up old dried ink. But most of the time to no avail.

I have a couple of small collection boxes for odd screws, nuts and bolts upstairs here in the motor home. Some other odd stuff ends up there. I have a group of small magnets, for some reason. There are some little plastic tubes and little rubber bumpers I wonder where they came from. I think I have one loose sock in my drawer, waiting for its mate who will never show up. Why can’t I throw this stuff away? (That is not talking about what I have in the basement of the motor home.)

I knew Mr. Baker in Mt.holly. He was a trash man. After talking to him for awhile, I decided I could never be a trash man; I would collect half the stuff folks threw away, and never get through my route. Also I once talked to a man who was retiring from a small land fill. He was the only person who worked there. He told me he had been there for over thirty years. Her lived in the country and had two barns full of great stuff he had gleaned over the years. He was going to start selling it at the flea market for supplement to his retirement. Sounded very wise to me.

Now most men know why we keep this stuff. It is because we just might need it to fix something else. Funny thing, I can’t throw a pair of leather shoes away without cutting out the tongues.
You may know why, sure it is because I am going to make a slingshot one day and need a tongue for the pocket……. Well I might!!!!!!

I just thought I have a slingshot. I got it out of the pocket behind my driver’s seat. It is our protection! Sherry took some pictures. I also protect Sherry's valuable jewelry with it!
Thanks for coming by the log

LOL, you are Dennis the Menace alright! Ha ha ha....I have every single key I've ever used, plus all of the dogs tags since they were pups! I even have a rock collection, of different coloured rocks I've picked up over the years. I feel lucky with this stuff, whether it's true or not! :)

We have everything, I do believe, that we first got nearly 42 years ago when we got married, plus what I had when he and I got married. That was a lot already. We have 3 cups of pens. Joe's is the worst. More than half of them don't work. Why are most humans such pack rats???? Paula says if Joe is royal he needs a royal crown.

Think about 3 years ago when you took on the responsible to help me downsize. We had one of everything I wonder how you did it. I am not
going to mention the basement. I think I have one of everything down there. I don't know why I just can't toss things. Maybe I will start.

Do you feel guilty when you finally decide to throw a pen away? I do. I must need help. lol We have a cup full on the hutch, one on the desk, and one by John's bed. I'll spend five minutes trying to get one to write instead of just throwing it away and using another.

I've actually carried a pen in my shirt pocket that I knew would not work for as much as a week or more. Trying to get that last little dribble of ink to ooze out and leaves it's imprint somewhere one more time. I was in Staples today and almost bought a new pack of 24 pens, but then I remembered the "24 pen holders" (just a little exaggeration here) scattered around the house and decided I needed that 6 dollars somewhere else. My camera got broke yesterday so it will go on the shelf in hopes that I can repair it in the future. Meanwhile it can serve as a paper-weight...or dust collector. I so wanted to take a picture of the hooey stick I pulled out the other day which I had made on the beach in Kenya about 15 years ago. No, it's not a slingshot - but close. If you've never seen one you would have to see a picture to understand. Your slingshot looks like a piece of artwork. But I prefer my .40 cal Glock!!!

Doesn't everyone have at least 2 cups full of dry pens, mechanical pencils that dont work, pencils that need sharpening, weird looking letter openers an magic markers that are dried up, a couple of cigar boxs full of springs, small nuts and bolts, paper clips, and also several pounds of keys that fit nothing you own plus several skeleton keys and oh ya, a couple of small padlocks that you need to find keys for???

Yep, have those pens alright in a glass. Also have a junk drawer. If I ever throw anything away then a few days later I will need it. Keep it an most times don't ever need it. I remember when kids used to have those slingshots. Just shows you are a kid at heart LOL. Helen

JACK, COLLECTIONS ARE NECESSARY FOR A MAN. A NICE HOME BOUGHT IN YEAR 1975 AT THE END OF THE CUL-DE-SAC, NICE LARGE GARAGE UP AWAY FROM THE CIRCLE AND A LARGE PATIO. WOULD HAVE ROOM IN THE GARAGE FOR TWO CARS AND A BOAT.

BY THE TIME WE GOT MOVED IN, MY COLLECTION OF WOODWORKING TOOLS CROWDED OUT THE CAR SPACE. BAND SAW, WOOD LATHE, PLANER, TABLE SAW, DRILL PRESS AND OTHER TOOLS COLLECTED AT YARD SALES AND AUCTIONS, A WONDERFUL COLLECTION.
MY WIFE MARY JANE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I WANTED THAT OLD STUFF THAT WAS NEVER USED.

OH YES, THERE WAS WALNUT AND MAPLE LUMBER COLLECTED FOR FUTURE USE. PIECES OF 'BOIS-D-ARC' WOOD THAT HAS THAT YELLOW AND BLACK COLOR. BLACK LOCUST TOO, SORT OF LIKE BOIS-DE-ARC. THOSE WOODS WERE USED FOR FENCE POSTS BY THE PIONEERS. POSTS STILL SOLID AFTER A HUNDRED YEARS. I HAD KEPT A COUPLE OF THE OLD POSTS. THAT WOOD WORKS WONDERFULLY WELL IN A WOOD LATHE.
SO JUST PARK THE CARS ON THE PATIO.

SMALLER COLLECTION ITEMS, OLD CAR KEYS. BUTTER UP OLD FELLOWS THAT CONTINUE HAVING THE OLD MODEL-T KEY, SOME WORN THIN FROM YEARS OF USE IN DUSTY AND MUDDY CONDITIONS.
YES SAM, FOR YOUR COLLECTION WILL LET YOU HAVE MY OLD MODEL-T KEY.

IN THE 'CATCH ALL' PAN COULD BE SEEN SMALL BOLTS AND NUTS WITH WASHERS TO FIT. SMALL SCREWS, SOME BRASS AND COPPER. COPPER RIVETS FROM HORSE AND BUGGY DAYS. HARNESS 'JEWELRY' WAS STYLISH IN BUGGY DAYS WHEN GRANDPA WAS COURTING GRANDMA AND DRIVING THAT BUGGY MARE BACK IN OLDEN DAYS. THAT CATCH ALL PAN RECEIVED ONE OF A KIND THINGS, SOME OF WHICH WAS A MYSTERY TO ASCERTAIN EXACTLY JUST WHAT IT WAS. MEN KEEP THINGS THAT MOST WOMEN WOULD NOT.

SO NOW MY COLLECTIONS ARE ONLY A MEMORY, HAVING BEEN GIVEN TO THOSE THAT HAVE 'BUTTERED ME UP'
WATCH THOSE YARD SALES. sam

How interesting to read.
For me, it is mostly books that i can't live without. There was also a supermarket offering six pens and twenty pencils for a dollar thirty - I got five packets, guess that it is enough until Stefan learns how to write ;)
