The QUESTION is asked….

How much longer do you think we can live this life style?  We started this life around the end of 1997. That puts us near 15 years on the road. It has been very rewarding, at times frustrating, but mostly rewarding.  We both love to travel.  We both love natural beauty, so times like this here in Lancaster, PA, we get to see a lot of natural beauty, visit friends from the military days and actually do some ‘normal’ tourist stuff. This time it is tickets to see Jonah.  That is very extravagant for us.

We can drive around and enjoy farm country. In the desert states, we can hike in the desert and enjoy just learning about it. We were used to red dirt of NC.  We are both originally from Central NC. Our birth places were about 12 miles apart, but we did not meet until we were teenagers in high school.

She was from a mill family, and always lived within 5 miles of where she was born. My dad was a preacher and we moved to 5 other towns before coming  to Belmont, near my birth town of Gastonia, NC. It was fate that we met. She was planning to move to another town with a girl friend, get a job and share an apartment. Her plans fell thru, she remained and we MET.

She was not sure she would like traveling, but the bug bit her and we traveled a lot, living many places. A son born in Biloxi, MS and another born in Kirksville, MO. I retired from the military, and we settled in Belmont for a few years. Planning our retirement. We have never required a lot. We were never concerned about what others thought about where we lived. Never too good to live in a  trailer, we started life together in one.

For a few years we lived on her salary and saved mine. God and Life has been good to us. But the subject does come up, is it time to Quit the road? Like today. Excitedly Sherry says, I don’t want to upset you, but water is running all over the floor. I knew she was washing clothes and I immediately said stop the Washer, thinking it was leaking. It was not.

I had forgotten to open the valve to allow the sink/wash water to run out to the sewer. The water backed up, filling the shower base and was running over onto the floor. I threw a towel down to stop the flow to the carpet ran outside and opened the valve stopping anymore damage.

We cleaned up the mess, and Sherry asked the question, “Do you think it is about time to settle down?”

Could be, but we will start paying attention to the small mistakes, if they become dangerous, WE QUIT!

But now? all is fine. We go to Dan & Joan’s tomorrow, She is fixing Crab stew. Then taking us to their daughter’s CHOCOLATE SHOP. So all is well in Sherry’s life. LOL

Thanks for coming this way.

You are right. When it becomes dangerous, to you or others, then is the time to settle. Til then, I envy what you do. We could not, with my bod falling apart piece by piece, and Bill's sight. Enjoy every milisecond of it and continue to share our country with us. We travel with you and through you. You have been blessed with a wonderful life together. You two are 10's in my book., now go play.

As for the 50 Chevy Coupe? That's the year the Lord gave me and my twin to Mom and Dad. Sweet Car. I could love one of those.

That is the question John and I are asking every day. The traffic is sooo bad on the two lane road to the ranch. If it wasn't for the shoulder lane we couldn't do it and it's getting harder and harder. we're even afraid to drive to some of the little bergs we used to ride to such as Tilden, Texas. The "big boom" is good for some people but not us.

I didn't realize you guys had been doing this since 1997; that is awhile, so many adventures! You guys could write a book, make it famous and then settle down :)

I think you guys will know when it is time to "call it a day" and settle back down. I still think there's a bit of life in what you are doing and I think for the most part it is enjoyable so continue to go for it!!

Not sure your restless spirit could settle down. But a place to plant your feet permanently is a goal to shoot for as you climb in age. Realistically you can not do this forever, as much as you enjoy it. Or can you? LOL take care.

We all have those kind of days when things go wrong, but one little mistake isn't enough to make you stop. I see my kids forget things too all the time. Visiting a chocolate shop sounds like a great way to spend some time. Enjoy your crab stew too and the visit with your friends. Hope your Wednesday is a wonderful one!

Everything is better with chocolate...

It is interesting to «Louis» how in the immediate post-war years in some ways GM was the industry leader in styling, but in other ways lagged. Case in point is the '50 Chevy you post here. On the one hand, GM pointed the way to the fin fad of the late '50s with the P-38 fighter plane-inspired taillights on the '49 Cadillac, yet GM was late to the party with the fully-enveloped body as witnessed by the rear fenders on this '50 Chevy not being enveloped by the rest of the car body. GM did not go to the fully enveloped body until the next generation which was launched in 1952. Studebaker (1947) and Ford (1949) were ahead of GM on this.

Okay - that was nothing - could happen at home too - trust me. Travel until you want to quit.

I am used to that red clay too -

Sounds like a great life Jack.

How thoughtful an entry. This 'writing on the wall' reminded me of what I learned, that it might be best to stop when it is the most beautiful.

Please have you all a good Thursday.

All ya need is a checklist just like pilots use pre-flight -- for when you set up to stay awhile and do laundry and another for when you're ready to button up and roll on. It's easy to get distracted, not so much an age thing either :) Enjoy the great Northeast, awesome country!

I am asking the questions..Brother how long are you going to be on the road again? As long as you
are having a good time enjoying
and your health is holding up
"GO FOR IT". You know I have traveled and I am ready to stay put. You and Sherry have been
every where. Enjoy reading
about your travels. Do you ever
think what Dad would say? If he
had been alive he would wanted to
be with you. He loved traveling.
