Our last meal was here at jack's corner bar. Just a few blocks from where we camped.
Here is the Black Bear Bar where we had one meal, it is just across from Jack's. Both are here in a nice residential district. Just a couple local places with good food and friendship. Jack's has Sam, the friendly little black pug.
We traveled about 14 miles South to Phillips, WI to see the Concrete Park. 200 Figures and layouts created by Fred Smith over the years, using concrete and broken glass. One of his famous quotes when asked about them, "Nobody knows why I done this, I don't even know."
Here I am talking to one big elk. Dar's dad knew Fred Smith. He was a retired lumber jack. Dar said her dad always referred to him as Mr. Smith.
Here is my girl looking around. These figures are not much for the arty folk, but I looked and the more I looked I began to appreciate all the thought, work and money went into creating this minagere.

The Anheuser Busch Clydesdales pulling the wagon.Mr. Smith started this collection when he was 65 years old. The park is definitely unique, it was really fun to walk through. No cost, you can leave a donation if you like. Actually some of this stuff is amazing when you think that one old man done it all. This stuff is HEAVY!

That looks like it was worth the stop for sure. It's amazing how life like they look in the pictures anyway. It also looks like you all are having some great weather. That sure makes traveling a whole lot nicer.
Jack I wondered if he used "BRIXMENT". That
is hard to believe all those concrete figures.
Think that would be an advertisement for ESSROC.

Great photos. So you are on the road again. Willie Nelson wrote that song, On the Road Again. Almost strained my 80 year old brain after I wrote that first part.
The concrete park is the type thing I would like to see. In Devine, Texas years ago an old man made tall figures out of cactus. They lasted years after he died. Oh and Sherry looks pretty cute standing among them.
It's easy to see this man is very talented. I like the one with the guys in the carriage drinking. It's amazing all the detail put into each of these concrete figures.
This post caused me to think of carving something into the logs around Pumzika Acres with my chain saw. Very interesting!
