Counterpin for Conterpane

The Land of Counterpane
Robert Louis Stevenson, 1850 - 1894

When I was sick and lay a-bed,
I had two pillows at my head,
And all my toys beside me lay
To keep me happy all the day.

And sometimes for an hour or so
I watched my leaden soldiers go,
With different uniforms and drills,
Among the bed-clothes, through the hills;

And sometimes sent my ships in fleets
All up and down among the sheets;
Or brought my trees and houses out,
And planted cities all about.

I was the giant great and still
That sits upon the pillow-hill,
And sees before him, dale and plain,
The pleasant land of THE COUNTERPANE.

FRIEND Bonnie from Eastern NC sent me the above. I re-read Treasure Island this year. So I do appreciate the author. His Treasure Island and the Strange case of Dr. Jekell and Mr Hyde have been unusually interesting.

So what I am assuming is that the word Counterpin is a southern word for counterpane. LOL  We folk from the south pronounce a few words strangely. (I am sure none of you Northern folk have noticed that before.) LOL

Now for tonights comments:

To begin, we have suffered tragic and sickening things in our great country. But the worst tragedy was brought to our country by politicians. Politicians who could not solve a problem, so in the Uncivil war we as a nation killed 620,000 of our finest. But that was us, and way back in my Great great grandfathers day. I hope we somehow are smarter today.

In my lifetime I have seen the two terrible tragedies since our Uncivil war. Pearl Harbor where we lost millions of $ in ships/planes and buildings and worst of all nearly 4000 lives.

Then came 9/11, where we lost 4 Billion in real estate and nearly 3,000 lives.

We just went thru a 15th anniversary of that tragedy, it was a well planned and very successful terrorist attack on our country.  I pray it never happens again. God Bless America.

So much tragedy, so many lives, and you're right, politics kills.
May our country come ' alive ' again with hope, love and less ignorance.

Now on the lighter side, it was also my hubby's birthday on that shared day.
Thank God it was not the same year. We spent the day at the farm where all is always smiles and laughter.

Have a great week, our friends.

Joining with all y'all (*smile*) in prayer!

... I wouldn't mind spending time in the pleasant land of a counterpane right about now. That was a cute one!

We collectively are more uncivil than civil, regardless of all the peace and love stories out there. Though I confess to believing your love story has most probably been more loving & civil than not.
