Bobby, who did the driveway, was telling me that he worked for the builders of these homes as a draftsman in the 1960's. These homes were built to sell to folks from the northern states for winter and vacation homes. The sales pitch offered a free
week Florida vacation, in their new hotel the first one in DELTONA. He said the sellers bused folk to Daytona and let them on the beach for a couple hours. Then the next day to Silver Springs to ride on the glass bottom boats. Then the rest of the time was high pressure sales.
$300 down and $40 a month for 20 years. The town of Deltona is laid out well. good wide roads and large lots for the smaller homes. Of course larger and more costly homes are here also. We just picked the low end of the spectrum.
WE came back from our walk and sat down in the living room of the house to talk. We have decided (for now) that we will stay in the coach thru Christmas and into the new year. We are taking a 'vacation' LOL in January for a couple weeks, maybe four. Then when we come back, move some stuff into the house until mid spring.
Then another vacation to NC and Pennsylvania (maybe Maryland) before coming home. We like to vacation. ;-)
We really want to take another trip with our sons. They are more fun since they (and we) are older. LOL
House update: We bought a Full size BR suit for $125. It was from the guest room at an Estate Sale at Ormond Beach. The mattress set looked new, it had been antiqued. I refinished it. I hope to put pictures on tomorrow.

Isn't it fun to plan another vacation? Planning ... and daydreaming. That's just one of the reasons I delight in y'all!
Your neighborhood's development sure resounds! It sounds like the fellas who orchestrated Deltona had a hand in Tropical Gulf Acres over in Punta Gorda. 1962 I think it was, my dad bought a tiny 'spec' house. Looking back at grainy pictures, he and mom were so proud!
How interesting to get the history you did from Bobby. He must have been incredibly young when he started working in the area back in the 1960s. Glad to hear Sherry's knee is feeling better and you are able to enjoy your walks together!

Hey, you posted a picture of a truck like you gave me when I was sixteen.
It's good to hear that you have reached a comfortable point in the work on the house. It's also good you have vacation plans. I'm thinking you two could use a break! You really have done a lot in the last few months!
So glad to hear that Sherrys knees are feeling better and you two got to get your walk on. Now tell her not to over do it. Vacation sounds nice. You two deserve it after all the work yall have put into getting your house together.
Happy Veterans Day Jack and Thank you.

I wanted to stop by and wish you a Happy Veteran's Day. I know that you served our great country, and my heart cannot express my gratitude for you and your service.
Sending love to you and Sherry,
Jackie
Brother I thank you for your service...I know you served in three branches.

he was going to Fl. Thanksgiving. Everybody will have a good time getting together. HAPPY VETERANS DAY...again Thank you for your service and my Freedom.
Yes amen to what others said. Thank you for serving our country.
It wouldn't be a Veterans Day if it weren't for loyal servicemen and women like you. Thank you so very much for your service and the freedoms we have experienced because of it.
It's wonderful that you and Sherry are walking about again. I'm glad Sherry's knee is better. Mine have been ' tricky.' Enjoy your vacations. I always love hearing all about them.
Love and hugs from up north. The wind blew cold today but the sun still shines bright as the moon.
After WWII they sold small houses across from the beach in Panama City, Florida for a few hundred dollars. The lots they sat on now cost more than a villa in other places.
Thank you for your service Jack.
Reading your sister's comment, you served in 3 branches? Uhm, if you'd ever like to do an entry on that......ya know, like when you run out of blog ideas ;).
Thank you so much for your service.
