Memorial Day

We took time to go to church and also attend our local Memorial day service at the local cemetery.  This is always a solemn occasion to me.  When I think of the number of men and women who have given their lives in defense of this country, or on orders from the commander-in-chief,  I am humbled.

All military men sign a statement that they are willing to give their lives in defense of this great country, many pay the ultimate sacrifice.

The USA has been involved in many wars and conflicts. As a neophyte in politics and world issues, I am not sure all of them were necessary.  I do believe that the two world wars were something freedom loving nations could not ignore.

We in the USA were fortunate that both those wars were fought on other’s soil. I am sure you folk in England (including the rest of Europe) and the folks in the Pacific can answer much better.

No one can ever know the joys and family love that the dying missed by giving their lives.  All I know is that we are free because of their sacrifice.  And as Abe Lincoln said at Gettysburg,(paraphrased) “We cannot dedicate, we cannot consecrate this place, because the blood of the men who died have consecrated it much above our poor power to add or detract.

PLEASE Remember the fallen, and the ones in harm’s way as I type. Now, As I think, I cry, “Bring them home NOW!” We have shed enough blood.

God Bless you all, we will return later.

I am always thankful there are those willing to serve to protect our freedom and to be willing to give their lives where necessary so I live a free life

they do need to be honored not just on Memorial Day but thanked every single day I do believe, as well as those who faithfully sacrifice right now to protect us, often away from their families for long periods of time

(I do hope to see you one day soon Jack posting more reguarly, have missed you and Sherry)

take care of yourselves!

Nice tribute to all the men and women who have and still serve our great country. A nice surprise to see a post from you early this morning.

Sometimes we glorify outlaws, but don't honor the people who actually should be appreciated.
Nice tribute. ~Mary

It was good to see your entry here today! Hope all is well there and that we'll be hearing more soon! I've been here at my camper for a nice long weekend and it's finally warmed up here in Ohio. Take good care!

That is so true as far as the men and women who have lost their lives and the ones with the most horrific injuries. To much bloodshed already. Good to see a blog from you. Will be glad to see it more regularly. You and Sherry have been missed.

Love this blog-post and the loyalty to country that you feel as we think of those soldiers who died in war to give us these liberties. I am thankful for the sacrifices our young men are making today - but with you - I want them to find a way to bring our boys home now. I've been too busy to blog lately - but we had a great Memorial day at Church - and then took some of the family to the cabin on Monday to burn some dogs and have a watermelon cuttin'. I know you're busy - but I miss reading the ship's log.

I went to Leavenworth Nat'l Cemetery on Memorial Day and saw many families. You can kind of tell if they are mourning an old grandfather or a young service person. So many new graves. I don't think we can ever resolve the mid east problems and we should concentrate on helping our own country. God bless all in uniforrm.
