Things are getting tough all over.

Fire_Dog

We are going to have to use the Air Conditioner if it gets warmer. Things are looking good here. We went to Hardees with the Old folk, some were missing. We met with Don & Evelyn had a good visit. They came back from Florida early. The County is paving their road, and Don had to come home to supervise.

Basset_Fetcher

Tonight is the Climax Mill reunion at Cat fish Cove Fish Camp. Around here that means fish restaurant, not a place to camp and fish. Don’t ask me why, I don’t know, it is just what we have always called them. There are a bunch around here.

There_Is_A_Spy

The place is too noisy for me, so I will skip it. Sherry’s brother Vernon is one of the standing entertainers for the evening.

(Can I come in now?)

Also the Shipslog maybe quiet for a few days while we re taking the time to take care of business. Our car has not been washed in 3 months. The motor home hasn’t been washed since November.  Just a lot to things to do.

TORNADO WARNINGS Our New House!

We got down here into spring, and the first thing we hear is ‘Tornado Warnings’.

The first thing some folk think, it is gonna hit us, I always say, It ain’t gonna hit here. I may be wrong someday, but so far the bullet has struck elsewhere.  I am an eternal optimist! (most of the time. LOL)

Near wrecks never bother me, after the fact. I have slow reactions and by the time I am supposed to be scared, the danger has passed. and it is too late to be scared.

Once on I-95 a car passed me and just about 50’ ahead he hit the center retaining wall spun across the lanes in front of us twice and ended up on the right side shoulder. Strange, it was a very busy highway and he hit no one. I am sure he was not hurt, but shook-up. I knew I was not gonna hit him, I had already cut my speed. When I saw the danger was passed, and what direction he was going, I was fine.

CVA 62 USS Independence

Sherry asked me once what I would do if the ship I was on would sink?  Immediately I said, “I’d swim home to you!”

So, we just got a call, we are about to go look at the new house, report on the next lines……………………

Like any advertisements you do not see the bad side, or things would never sell. Here is the entrance to the den; there is a fire place in it. BUT there is a step down inside, never a good thing to be below ground level. But we can handle it.

002

There are two major draw backs.. Sherry says the wall paper will have to go. But after hearing Sonya removing wall paper, I might just paint it, you can do that can’t you?

The other small thing is that door at the end of the room goes into another bedroom, not good to go thru the master br to get to it. solution? Possibly tear the wall out and make one giant master bedroom. Then it becomes a 2BR, not bad.

bedroom

Another SLIGHT DRAWBACK the door below goes straight by a tub shower on the left into a bathroom (commode & Vanity) Problem is just inside that door to the right is the other bathroom???????  Yep Shown below.

bedroommaster

See below, Here you are standing just inside the door above, looking straight ahead you see the one bathroom the tub on your left you cannot see you are standing beside it. if you look to your right you immediately see the master bathroom, Makes sense right? From any place in the house to get to either bathroom you must go thru the master bedroom.  Slight problem here'.  But, yeah I think we can solve it, with a little ingenuity and work.hallbathmbath

Now to the important stuff. Two storage buildings, in fair shape. A large carport for a boat or small camper, just not big enough for our Motor home.  Little challenge here.

storagecarport

There is a whole house fan, as you see below in the ceiling. Not to bad, I sorta like that to draw fresh air thru open windows. Also would help if I burned something in the kitchen, hahahaah! Wonder why the border was dropped from the ceiling level? The box on the right is gas logs I think, I didn’t look close figured they were taking them out.from living room wall

Those will be our Leland Cyprus growing into the road And our wild shrubs going wild up front. Just past the Cyprus trees are about 5 or 6 houses, then a dead end at a house that is appraised at 1.2 million. Quite a mixture of houses.

006

However in the front yard is two big beautiful dogwood trees, and one huge oak about 36” thru maybe 48”.

Draw back here? yeah, leaves. hahahahaha But advantage is shade in the summer.005

It has a nice mail box this is a dead end street also with a couple houses on it. So it is a quiet neighborhood. I could not tell the lay of the land before, but now I know it falls away, the direction you are looking past the mail box.

But all in all we are satisfied, we expected some work.

And we got it.

Thanks for stopping by the log,

Nite Shipslog

Shirl’s RV Park

We arrived at Shirl’s mid afternoon. She came out to greet us, and tell us the rates had been raised from $2 a day to $2.25. Things are tough since prices went up. LOL

The place is beautiful, She has all the limbs picked up that blew down in the storm, grass is cut and bushes trimmed. Great to come home to a beautiful park.

To answer Mel’s question. I am one tough dude, but not as tough as Slim, I did ask Sherry her opinion before I said YES on the house.

We looked at our soon to be house/home for the first time. Pictures do not tell the whole story, I have been around long enough to know that. But we are satisfied with the outside.

Too much yard work FOR US THOUGH, Shirl would love it. Funny I was looking at the property lines, not exactly sure where they would be. A little later the neighbor started cutting his grass, he started about where I had been looking. Sherry said, “He is showing you where the line is.” YEP.

We were in the car about the time he started or I would have went out to talk to him.

We know the folks across the street! Didn’t realize it until after we agreed to buy it. How great is it to be named Wacker? That is his name, Wacker Carver is 85 now, we had a good talk. He said ,”You will like it here, it is quiet.”

“Not any more, if Sherry moves in!” said I.

We all had a good laugh while standing in the road, that gives you an idea of the traffic. haha!

Good trip, except for the fuel, that is. We saw two accidents, both motorcycle wrecks and they were about a mile apart. Don’t know the injuries.

The drive thru the Smokies was great as usual. Yes Spring actually LIVES!

Thanks for coming by the log.

On the Road Again, Michigan to Tennessee

Moving Day, we are on the road leaving Sherry’s Baby brother at the mercy of the Doctors and Nurses. To recap: When we came up the Doctors did not give Johnny much hope. Now today, nearly two months later, he is sitting up, breathing, eating and talking on his own. He still has a ways to go, but thank all of you for the thousands of prayers that have ascended on John’s behalf. He did not want his little sister to leave, but she promised to return if he really needed her. She promised BIG TIME, to come back to pack him up and move him south. He actually is leaning that way, the family south will love that, everyone loves Johnny.

(Colette, Lennie, Johnny, Elmer & Sherry)

We are having a good trip; we both love to hit the road. I always look over at Sherry and say I am the most blessed man in the world and yes, life is good.

our wedding 001 - Copy

Well she let me loose on the computer while she was there without supervision. She should know better. I found a fixer upper to buy and work on. I never got around to making an offer. I spied a house near where Mark lived and close to Shirl, I made an offer and they accepted, so we are on our way to a home we have never seen before, except in pictures.

(I Keep telling Sherry, With just a little work, this will be great!)

We are above Knoxville for the night. Started off in a cold rain, somewhere in Ohio I turned off the wipers, Somewhere in KY I lowered the front shade to block the sun. By the time we reached Tennessee it was warming up. Here above Knoxville in Raccoon Valley, we finally are in shirt sleeve weather.

My Last Michigan Post, heading south

100_1438

(We won’t be parking here, Mark sold it!)

Hospital birds 011

(A small sign of spring two sparrows making love to themselves in our rearview mirror, while Sherry’s bears watch))

Hospital birds 008

It looks like it is about time to hit the road. There was some hesitation, thinking we might be able to stick around until Johnny went to external rehab, but it does not seen like that is gonna happen. He is breathing on his own, eating and all his vital signs are good; But still no word on discharge.

Hospital birds 016

(Sherry is eating a choc. covered Strawberry, John chose the cantaloupe)

Today we got him an edible arrangement. I think he enjoyed that.

Hospital birds 007

There are some good views from on the seventh floor. The Ann Arbor sky line is visible.

Hospital birds 005

John’s front yard needs work. They have been working on the entrance way since we arrived. Thru rain sleet and snow.

Hospital birds 002

There is a garden on the fourth floor. Mature trees, greenery and other plants. It seems like a relaxing place.

Hospital birds 001

We used the elevator to the 7th floor one time. That is when we took John’s personal stuff up. Since then we have climbed the stairs. My best time is 7 floors in one minute and 45 sec. I usually do it in right at 2 minutes. Sherry does it in less than 4 minutes. I think her best time is 3 ½ minutes. She likes to stop and take a breather at the 5th floor.

Hospital birds 010

(More of the fourth floor garden area)

However I don’t think my legs are any stronger. I wonder when you are old if you can regain stamina. Or do you injure yourself and make growing old more painful?

Oh yes, I have now four pages of a new novel entitled, “And Finally Love”. It is the continuing story from the book S’gar. In this book S’gar reverts back to his birth name, Jerry Wiley. Jerry at 70+ years old falls in love with a girl named --- Guess? Yep, Sherry. It is gonna be Sherry and Jerry in an Autumn romance.

Hospital birds 017

(A closer shot of the ‘Edible Arrangement’.)

This is a little early to talk about it but I wanted you folks to know that I have finally started back to work. Hahaha

Thanks for dropping by the log,

How will a Government Shutdown affect you?

gd50

The last shutdown we were in Washington DC. To be truthful I cannot remember what happened. I know I went to work and the sailors that worked for me did. I am not sure about the 36 Civil servants. As best I can remember you could not tell the difference. And after it was over the workers received back pay, and the system kept on.

gd3

It is strange to me that we always want a balanced budget, we always want government spending cut, but when it comes to it nobody can agree.

gd14

Sorta like a city dump. Do you have that problem where you live? Most places do. We all know we must have a dump, or the latest term is ‘land fill’. But we don’t want it in our back yard. You can bet the dump goes in the lowest pay area of your county. The ones who cannot raise enough stink to make a difference.

gd4

Sorta like the groups who want the State budget balanced, but do not want a pay cut and will strike for it. They will shut it down if they don’t get their way. They will paint a picture that nobody loves us and Gov’t is just covering for the fat cats. That is always a good line.

gd5

As a general rule we Americans will compromise and give more it the problem is truly explained. I was proud of Reagan when he fired the Air Controllers, and reworked the system.

gd15

There are times that the little man will suffer. Note these pictures of the USA, and that was only 80 years ago. Lucy might remember some of this. I say that because I think Lucy is the oldest person I know that blogs here. Our man Sam isn’t active anymore.

gd26

The poor paid during the last depression. There was no unemployment or bail outs.

Enough, just wondering if the shutdown would bother you?

        SMART A$$ ANSWER
A truck driver was driving along on the freeway and noticed a sign that read: Low Bridge Ahead. Before he knows it, the bridge is right in front of him and his truck gets wedged under it. Cars are backed up for miles. Finally a police car comes up.
The cop gets out of his car and walks to the truck driver, puts his hands on his hips and says, 'Got stuck, huh?'
The truck driver says, 'No, I was delivering this bridge and I ran out of gas.'

I remember my dad talking about driving from Georgia to Hollywood, FL, Stuffing rags and weeds in tires after blow outs. Wiley, Sherry’s dad, a died in the wool Republican said, “FDR was the best thing that ever happened to the USA”.

Short timers, Gas, Diesel & Detroit City & Early Sports cars (some unknown)

1941_Chrysler_Newport-red

What is gas where you are? We passed a station one morning the price was $3.39 That evening it was $3.85. The next morning it was $3.59. Today it is $3.85. Diesel is hanging right at $4 a gallon. Funny (not haha funny), we paid about $400 to come up here from Florida. Now the trip back to NC, much shorter distance, will cost a little over $400. Yep, I guess we will park our home for awhile. Or until we buy one of the wells they are drilling near Paula. Haha

1951BuickLesabre-aug31

I wish the president had never said we need gas to be at least $4, so we will be forced to find alternate fuels. Surely we are searching for alternate fuels. But until then we are gonna use OIL. Because most of us will not, or cannot go out and buy a new Hydrogen car at $112,000. I am not gonna buy a hybred (yet).

1953_Corvette_early_with_Bel_Air_wheel_covers

smart2

I think if I were to look for a good cheap operating vehicle I would get a smart car. (We could just go to the Villages in Florida, where you can live with a golf cart.)

1953MuntzJet-f

In the military, when a guy’s enlistment was coming to a close, he started what was known as a ‘Short-timers calendar’. It is funny how the last ten days would drag by. Over the years I have found life has a lot of situations like that. Remember as a kid? How time dragged from December 1 until CHRISTMAS.

1954_Plymouth_Belmont,_rearV

Or that all important 13th birthday so you could be a teen ager. I thought my 16th birthday would never get here (driver’s license).

1954HudsonItalia-a4

Then I could not wait for my 18th birthday so I forged a birth certificate to join the USMC. Then after getting in, I could hardly wait to get out. Usually I am not so anxious to leave a place, but I am ready to leave Detroit.

1956_Thunderbird_htp-skirts-steel_grey-fVl=mx=

Do you remember the country song :

Home folks think I’m Big in Detroit city.

From the letters I write they think I’m fine.

By day I make the cars, By nite I make the bars,

If only they could read between the lines,

I wanna go home, I wanna go home,

Oh how I want to go home.

Well I have been singing that lately. Hahahahahahaha
