Tuesday ….It is tough when you learn, Things Never stay the same

 Picture

This is one strange thing, I can only find one picture of Marty Kerns, here he is beside my 1955 Chevy.  I bought this car in Key West for $50.

So, for today:

WE want to think when things are going well with family and friends, that life will always be this way. The closest of friends will ALWAYS be there for you. A small shadow now sits in my mind.  Son Jack just came by the RV to let us know that his longtime friend, Marty, passed early in the AM.

Timing is good at times in life.  Jack Jr. decided last week to drive to West VA to see Marty. They had a good visit, little did he know that would be the last time he would see Marty alive, you know, there is always another visit.

The boys met in Key West, both in High School. I was active duty USN and so was Marty’s dad. WE never met Marty’s family, but the boys hit it off.

In the USN cruises are normal. Some a few days some months. Marty’s dad’s squadron had just returned home from a long cruise, there was joy in those family homes!. WE all lived on a little island called Sigsbee. The little island joined Key West proper by a small causeway and road.

Early the next morning WE will never forget, there was a banging on our door, it was Marty. He was crying.

“Daddy just died! My daddy just DIED!” This was a shock all the way around. His dad was due to retire soon; they were all moving back home, West Virginia. BUT a heart attack changed a lot of plans.

IT has been over 50 years; the boys kept in touch. Later Marty’s mom passed. For better work with an airline Marty transferred to Charlotte where we lived.  We sort of, became substitute parents.  Marty’s health failed he has been in and out of hospitals for a few years now. He moved  back to WVA, the boys kept in touch.

Many of us know what it is like to lose a BEST friend. Tough to say the least.

How thankful I am Jack Kr. visited his friend. It is HARD to lose friends. And the older we get - the more we lose.
